I never heard that Griffey had conditioning problems, that would certainly explain some of the problems. I guess I really don't know alot about his personality, I always thought he was a nice guy without any attitude. In Baseball at least 33 isn't that old, maybe he will get his act together and put together some more good seasons before he retires.
If Griffey hits the weights the way Bonds did later in his career, he still has an oppurtunity to become one of the all time greats. I mean, he already has 481 HR. If he can have a sudden explosion like Bonds or MacGuire and have a 60 plus HR year or two. . . If I were Griffey, when the leg is healed, I'd call up Barry's trainer, and get some maple bats too.
Yup. I remember reading lots of articles (during his hey-day in SEA) about how he was a typical "Gen-Xer" who didn't want to work hard to maintain his craft and expected to be able to fly by the seat of his pants (or talent in this case) for his entire career. Writers would make snide comments about how all that "Nintendo playing" just might catch up to him someday if he didn't take the idea of training seriously.
Are you sure about that? I remember most of Griffey's injuries came when he was banging into the CF wall making a spectacular catch. Only recently did he suffer these non-contact injuries.
Man, I feel bad for the poor guy. He had homered in 5 straight games, plus i picked him up on my fantasy team. His luck looked like it might turn around, but now this. How the mighty have fallen.
