LOL I dont think he is the next Howard but with his size. strength and youth only 20yrs old kid has all the tools to be a very good rebounder defender. I think that is harder to find then a PG like Lin. Bigs that play with strength are a dying breed. Maybe at top end a Ben Wallace type.
smith out lin is next i like lin over flynn but lin is non guaranteed and flynn is so.. bye bye smith and lin,,,,,,, dalembert---hill---thabeet scola---patterson--adrien buddinger---lee---morris---parsons martin---twill--- lowry---dragic---flynn my predictions is that parsons and adrien spend some time in the dleague
The Kid is a big ole stiff...plain and simple. He might be able to contribute one day, but today is not the day. He should have stayed in school.
He was on the team for a week and played five minutes in two preseason games. I wish him the best of luck, but he made no impact.
Parsons contract is guaranteed for the first 2 years. Adrien's contract is partially guaranteed but he had to leave behind an euro contract to sign with the Rockets.
Those of you guys who keep saying Smith is just some random scrub don't get it: Greg Smith is only 20 years old. At his age its natural for him to be uncoordinated, he's still extremely raw and filling out. But the fact that he's managed to develop his body so much in such a short time shows that he's not afraid to lift weights and put in the work. Of course he won't see a minute of PT this season unless the injury bug bites the team hard, but a year of two of big man coaching from Mchale can turn him into a beast. He's just enough length for the C position, enough hops to sky and dunk, enough upper body strength to push Dejuan Blair around and has huge ass hands that allow him to grab loose balls easily and the wave the b-ball around like a tennis ball. Rockets letting him go now would be a mistake, unless he has some focus/discipline problems we don't know about. He can be as good as Perkins IMHO, we should lock him for multiple years on the cheap and develop him properly.
The Rockets will be lucky if Greg Smith signs with the Vipers. Bigs are hard to find, so Smith should only a phone call away from the NBA.
I thought Jeff Adrien looked better. They both challenged most every shot, but Jeff really impressed me with his tough interior defense and rebounding fundamentals. He's got such long arms and he kept them all the way up. Thabeet can learn a think or two from Jeff. Thabeet would have played a lot better if he wouldn't keep the ball so low when he rebounds and goes up for a shot.

No guaranteed contract? How do you trade him just because you want a trade? I think we roll with this team as it is. I remind you the season starts in a few days!
