Right, because assistant GM's are in charge....??? Hey, he may have been assistant in title only, and he really was the one pulling the strings....but I doubt it. He'd only been with the team a few months when the draft happened, CD was still officially GM, and JVG was still coach. With the combination of all those things, with the value that Shane has (whether or not you think it was a good trade), etc.... Well, I'm not counting that on DM's track record. That's not to say he hasn't made mistakes, but "In Morey We Trust" is a saying for a reason. He's been as close to perfect as the GM as you could ask for, luck aside. And when I say luck aside, that means not having Pau Gasol fall into your lap for a bag of cheetos, not turning a draft pick and solid young PF into two of the top players at their positions at appropriate times of their careers (i.e. KG and Ray Allen). Fingers crossed, and we pull a San Antonio, get the top draft, draft this decades Tim Duncan, then I'd fully expect to go on to win 4 or 5 championships under DM. As is, it's very very difficult to complain about DM's decision making. He's consistently ranked as one of the top GM's in the NBA and even in professional sports. He's had time to build his staff, to hone his craft, etc. I am really really interested to see what he does with a lotto pick this year. It'd be nice if it was a little higher, but short of a ping pong ball bouncing our way, looks like it will be #13 at best.
