i was at an alumni watching party at Six in Austin, even the female fans were complaining about Greg Johnson's play calling.
i swear whoever wrote TechnoBowl had better plays in the red zone.

where is henry melton when texas is the goal line??
    did they forget about him?

Oh come on... They were playing in Nebraska which is one of the loudest places in college football combined with terrible weather and they were playing into the wind and snow in the 4th quarter. Not to mention they're playing on field turf which will just get more and more slick as the game goes by.

Nebraska has gotten better as the season has progressed and played well. Texas should have won and should have won cleanly but you're not going to win all your games cleanly.

Melton's been in the doghouse pretty much, and for good reason

now I know you went to UT just like I did, so I'm sure you've watched most of the games this season...Melton has been less than spectacular so far. even all the people on hornfans have been dogging him. jorvorskie lane, even being the super ****** that he is, is a better bruiser and runner at this point in time than melton

OK. But when they had 1st and goal after the opening kickoff, that was pathetic. No excuse for it IMO. I'll accept the weather explanation for the rest of the game.

UT's offense gets great field position due to their defense and special teams. They've played a weak schedule so far this year. I keep hoping some sorry athlethic director hires Davis away as an offensive coordinator based on the scoring stat.

I will give Davis credit for customizing the offense for Vince last year. Davis is much better than he was a few years back, but the offense is more talent than schemes.

The best offensive plays UT had occured when offensive players made a play. UT didn't mesmorize Nebraska with play calling. McCoy made some plays out of the pocket. Sweed beat his man. Young and Charles made a couple of good runs when the defense was there. UT rarely gets easy yards against tough competition because they have the right play.

anyone can call Vince Young Option.

there was no excuse in this game that we make it within the 10 yard line and not score touchdowns. not with this talent.

dude, you realize at the Alumni party i went to, the girls even called out greg davis. when the girls think you call crap plays, then you call crap plays.

or maybe girls just don't know crap about football technically. what do they want to do, throw it vertically deep every down?

although having said that, I certainly don't think Greg Davis is some genius offensive coordinator. but I said after we won the NC last year that I'd give him a pass for a full year. so that's what I'm doing, lol

A win is a win IMO, but man was that close. Here are my thoughts:

    Texas Offense:
The playcalling was questionable once again, luckily the defense kept on giving them chances. While I understand why Davis was conservative with McCoy today (hostile environment, cold weather, rainy/snowy), I couldn't believe the plays that were being called in the redzone. Throwing a screen on 3rd and goal just isn't a smart call, especially since Colt throws very well in the redzone with big targets like Sweed and Finley.

I would also like to see us utilize Charles a little more. The kid only had 9 carries today and still got 63 yards. He has good hands and is very dangerous in the open field.

I agree i think charles is the best offensive weapon UT has. and im saying that while being a pretty big limas sweed fan considering im from brenham where he played HS football. charles is awesome freaking use him.

still happy they won. im still trying to gauge the chances UT has to still end up in the title game. im hoping a&m keeps winning and that missouri beats nebraska and then play them in the big 12 title game that will be two pretty highly ranked teams. ***still got a chance***

    Weird game.

Texas is much more talented. But NU had a chance to win because of better coaching and collapses by a couple of players (both Griffins and kicker). Then U has the game in the bag, and fumble. Texas secondary has a number of breakdowns this year--including by Mike Griffin today (both early TDs were on him, flat out whiffed tackles he has to make) and Ross (tOSU game, and NU's half back pass though Mike Griffin also takes the blame in that one). Texas's secondary should have been the best in the land (with Ross, Brown and Griffin coming back), but they have made a lot of mistakes and been the defenses lone weaknes. Straiten it out, they have the best D in the land. I look for a rematch in the Big 12 title and the Horns to smoke them.

And yes Greg Davis sucks. The whole idea running VY's offense without VY is a sucky philosophy. Cost them versus tOsu, almost today. His play calling sucked too. Fade in the end zone when you just take more clock and center the kick? Don't call the fade when it was reasonable (when UT was up a couple with the ball and looking to ice the game with the TD). Only give Jammal Charles 10 touches, wtf?

Texas needed to retool to play to their strengths, Oline, Charles and Sweed. Instead Davis stuck with the VY offense that was effective in the clutch because of a once in a century QB. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Seriously, VY made GD look smart last year, and Davis isn't smart enough to figure that out. Don't let UT's excellent PPG fool you, against an excellent defense the offense has broken down, too much pressure on a young QB without VY talent and underutlization of some tremendous college football skill players.

We were lucky today. We never should have needed to be lucky.

yup, any longtime horn fan should know that greg davis sucks, and nobody should be defending that guy. i think he screwed us over in the OSU game with his conservatice approach. Sure it was Colt's first big test, but it was also OSU's new defense first test also; they had freaking 9 new guys in their 2nd game together!

that isn't vy's offense, its the spread offense, originally run but Northwestern. it's the same offense alex smith ran at utah, and the offense that urban meyer is trying to implement at florida. its not a stretch to have mccoy running it because like they were pointing out in the broadcast today, he runs the option pretty well. should they have run the ball more with charles and young, probably, but that offense is good for mccoy and supposedly snead will run it even more effectively. mack has actually done a good job of getting players to run it. is mccoy as good a runner as vince, of course not. but probably none of the qbs who run it are. but that doesn't mean they have to scrap it.

If I were a UT fan, i'd be concerned that Texas needs to cause so many turnovers to win games. I'm not at all impressed by Texas' offense, but their defense, special teams and ability to cause turnovers is the best in the nation.

I think it's just sad that Davis has not figured out that him re-calling a successful play (in succession) is no longer a surprise and doesn't work.

As for the Longhorns being 'lucky', Nebraska was lucky they were in the game at the end. Texas should have shut the door on them much earlier; for anyone who actually watched the game it was pretty evident.

Greg Davis will never get a fair shake from a lot of you guys. He didn't exactly play it conservative yesterday, they threw the ball (in bad weather) 40-something times (and had no choice but to do so really because Nebraska was blitzing 6 or 7 more often than not in the second half) Hell they evencalled that crazy trick play in the first quarter that is nothing if not creaive

He called a good enough game to win, and some of his play calls (the throwback screen for example) were perfect for the situation. In better weatherj, or with a more accurate kicker and/or with a more accurate QB this game is not even close.

Stop whining, they won........again,and it was not totally in spite of Davis. it's very telling that half the people b****ing about him are mad at him for being too conservative while the other half think he needs to run the ball more.
