Any news on what his offseason will be like this year? He needs to get bigger>to get bigger he needs good workout regimen/diet/sleep>to rest he needs no corporate/natl team/ambassador hassles.
at what point did i become ridiculous? when i said yao played like a wimp last night? because he did. the guy is a 300 pound person who should back down shawn bradley every time. yao needs to take some lessons from charles barkley and get his butt into it and learn how to back someone down. its about being physical and aggressive and wanting to get to the basket. getting aggressive is the single biggest problem that yao needs to overcome. he can get stronger and bigger all he likes but he needs to use what he has already and not be afraid of initiating contact. maybe you thought i was ridiculous because i said i didnt know how yao got 18 and 11. well maybe i just remembered the bad spots of the game because we lost. i generally try to be optimistic but yao against bradley really disappointed me last night. it seemed like he was constantly getting stripped and blocked and outplayed. don't call me ridiculous unless you can tell me that yao played a great game and showed his aggressiveness last night. because he didn't...he looked bad last night. and for the love of god don't call me a yao hater because i am criticizing him.
well i think there are a lot of crappy announcers out there and i think elliot is a solid one. he is certainly a hell of a lot better than tom tolbert who he was doing the game with.
oh yeah tolbert was doing the 2nd game. i was already drunk by then and i hate tom tolbert. i like saunders better than elliot though.
it would just be a lot easier if someone would talk about Yao's momma, then maybe he would take it to da rock and dunk it on someone!
Van Gundy is very good. Mike Fratello is good (even though annoying as hell) Danny Ainge (yes I know I know) is an excellent commentator. John Thompson is decent. In my opinion, Doug Collins was one of the very best.
I totally agree. Yao averages about 30 minutes and gets about 13 pts. and 8 boards. I think he'd be getting about 18/10 if he was playing about 40 minutes/game. He'll definitely improve and with increased time 18/10 is definitely acheivable. I'd be surprised if that's his peak though. Improvement with more time on the floor looks like it'll result in better than 18/10, but it's not like 18/10 is bad either.
I think Yao came out very aggressive in the 3rd. Sometimes it seems he has to get roughed up or even dunked on to really get mad and then he becomes a pretty aggressive player. For some reason people to look past this.
After reading that line...I will have to pass on reading any more of this piece of crap. THat one line shows how much he knows about the NBA, and well....I am not interested reading any more crap written by a guy, who is paid to know these things....he should do his homework...
I'm actually surprised at how well Yao's been rebounding, he is 7'5", but he often doesn't seem to have great position. he also tends to let a lot of the other guys on the squad grab the defensive boards. I agree that he can substantially up that rebound number, lately he's been rebounding well but I think that's one of the weaker areas of his game. I can see him putting up much scary rebounding numbers in the future.
I think people were watching two different games. Yao did not play great, but I think it was a tale of two halves. Bradley outplayed Yao (only like 2-8)in the 1st half and Yao outplayed Bradley in the 2nd Half. Yao scored 9 in a row for the Rockets in the 3rd Quarter. If you're gonna say he played like a wimp, I'd say that was in the first half. Anyone with 2 eyes could see that in the 2nd half he was playing nothing like a wimp. I was actually very happy with his performance because of the way he bounced back. Instead of giving up and losing confidence from a bad 1st half, he came out very aggressive in the 2nd half and played well.
Who cares if Yao is ever the kind of dominating player Shaq is? There's more than one way to dominate a game, even from the center position. I don't see this comparison made much, but Yao reminds me a lot of Kareem. Kareem had more moves and that never-miss skyhook, and Yao is probably already a better passer, but they're both smart finesse players. Although Kareem did a lot of dunking, he was never the in-your-face kind of physical force that Shaq is. Instead, he dominated by having a variety of shots and the ability to knock them down most of the time. I see Yao as being this kind of player after he gets a couple of years at the NBA level under his belt.
Damn, some of these posters have a serious case of MAD YAO disease. If Yao is posting 18pts, 11 rebs, hes easliy the top 3 centers in the league. I do agree that Yao lacks the aggressiveness to be a great player in the league, thats not saying hes not going to be.But he does need to be more aggressive and assertive. As for the person who bashed Sean Elliot for not calling Ming the next Jesus Christ or something, you should learn some bball facts my friend. He's an awesome person who won the only championship that spus ever got. I watched the game on ESPN and he wasn't bashing Yao by any means, he was just stating what Yao was doing wrong. If you can't take criticism, you'll never get better.
Heh heh...True. I have MAD YAO! But, I get cured next year when I get the antidote called, "Not a rookie anymore!" Sean Elliot is decent. He's a lot better than Tim Hardaway. By the way, Yao would only average 18/11 because he's shares the ball. He could average more. Especially if he was in teh same position that McGrady or Garnett was (alone). But, the rebounds will increase from 10 to 15.
Tim Duncan is really not an aggressive player. Both Barkeley and Shaq called Duncan and Robinson soft. When Rox played Spurs in the first game and Yao dropped 27-18 on the Spurs, Barkeley basically called Duncan and Robinson soft to let Yao beat them.
Robinson is soft. Duncan is not. It's just that Duncan wasn't very vocal (as a leader) in the past. He's changing though.
Duncan is not aggressive though. I seldom see Duncan dunks a ball. He always shoots jumpers, and even banks his shots.
