I have to disagree with you. THE CLASH 1. Vast reaching popularity - They were at a point the biggest band in the world and are continually played on the radio everyday. 2. Musical Experimentation- Listen to each CLASH album and they experiment with hard rock, reggae, and eventually almost dance music. No other 'punk' band affected a whole generation through their music, and was as politically charged and ideological as THE CLASH. The Clash in my opinion are the most popular band in terms of everything they've accomplished and the legacy they've left. What has Green Day done, except singing about tripping on acid?
When it's all said and done, I think Green Day will be/is more popular. (not that I think that is a good thing) There's a lot of other factors involved too, like the media-entertainment age we live in, it just engulfs everyone. BTW, could you explain more why you think Green Day is not punk? other than the fact that there are some other punk bands that sound a little different?
I can't speak about worldwide, but The Clash's album sales don't compare to Green Day's in the US. The Clash have sold approximately 7 million albums compared to Green Day's 17 million.
Probably not as good as the Hanoi Rocks version ... UT-Weez, I can't believe you don't have The Yo-Yo's album yet. Especially since you like Thunders and the Wildhearts so much- just tragic.
Nope, that's the only one, I believe ... guess you're not as impressed as I - woops. Social D- doubt it. I like 'em, but no one I know really does. I don't know anyone cool.

I love Green Day more than anyone. The very first CD I ever bought was the Green Day - Dookie, so it really hurts to see them suck this bad. At first I didn't like Warning the first time I heard it, but it is easily one of my fav. albums now. They were steering toward the "Good Riddance" sound, which, after a while, really caught on. This album on the other hand is more generic crap. They even copied the chorus from an even crappier band, POD. This is a sad day in good music.
It's funny, I thought it was a sad day when Dookie came out. Not the album itself but because I new the days of shows at small clubs were just about gone.
