IF, I like your line of thinking. Let's go out and start a riot, so police officers have something to do.
Heck no, why buy a 70" TV when you can simply get the projectors for under $2,000 now. No way, I would waste money on that, when you can get over 10' of screen on your wall for less money. Thanks for pointing that out Deepblue. DD
I believe 99 percent of all budhist monks live without greed. It is pretty much what the religion/philosophy is all about and it is the only religion I know of that could never be misconstrued as justifying violence or war.
And the one I respect the most. In fact they do not have ANY 70" TVs, they went straight for the NEC projectors.... Bald and smart them thar Budhists. DD
In Jesus's eye's he's still a sinner, since he wasn't willing to let go all of which that was on earth if he value his earthly possessions above his relationship with god. Mark 10:17 - 24 The Rich Young Man 17As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 18"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone. 19You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'[d]" 20"Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." 21Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" 24The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is[e] to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
And later it was discovered that there is an entrance to an ancient city that they called "the eye of the needle", and camels would have to bend to get through it, which Camel's don't do. How funny that the poor always tell the rich to give up everything......I guess that is easy to do when you have nothing, or little. Jesus was a wise and great man, same as Ghandi...but son of God? Well, no more than you or I. DD
Efficiency and progress is ours once more Now that we have the Neutron bomb It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done Away with excess enemy But no less value to property No sense in war but perfect sense at home… The sun beams down on a brand new day No more welfare tax to pay Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light Jobless millions whisked away At last we have more room to play All systems go to kill the poor tonight Gonna Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor…Tonight Behold the sparkle of champagne The crime rate's gone Feel free again O' life's a dream with you, Miss Lily White Jane Fonda on the screen today Convinced the liberals it's okay So let's get dressed and dance away the night While they… Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor…Tonight
To borrow from Churchill. Capitalism is a terrible economic system. The only thing worse is everything else. Command economies have never worked and in an era of great decentralization and access to information and communications are even more unlikely to work. Capitalism does terrible things but leaving it up to governments or small amounts of people to dictate how resources are distributed does far worse.
Considering the size of my first apartment in NYC, a television that I could mount on the wall of my living room was definitely a need. But I went with 37", if that makes you feel any better.
Bah... Why are democratic social policies and capitialistic economic policies assumed to be synonymous? But to answer your point, IMO, a Libertarian social government with pure economic policies would lead to a Pareto efficiency. You wouldn't eliminate the poor. Though you could say that as your best system, the poor wouldn't be that bad off compared to other system. As for assuming that I'm advocating authoritarian Communism from the part you didn't quote me from, I'm alluding the opposite. Communism and our current capitalistic policies are working towards the same goal of achieving a sort of progress without realizing its greater function other than a means to sustain order or survive. This isn't necessarily a bad thing in a world of limited resources, but it severely undercuts the hidden potential of our minds. Americans should want to sacrifice for other countries, but not be forced to live as other countries. Morally superior, freedom spreading, and heartfelt Americans, that is.
no true Greed in a monetary . . .you are correct but Jesus was greedy in saving folx. . . he didn't want 90% he wants them ALL he ain't trying to share with an other idols/deities Rocket River
I am under the impression that we are all the sons and daughters of God Are we not his creation ? No more or Less so than you children are your creation heck even your software is your creation . . Rocket River I'm not as literal as everyone else
Exactly, I think a lot of the stories are embelishments. For instance.....why turn water into wine? Isn't that bad for the body? Shouldn't the son of God know that? Myths and legends people, myths and legends. DD
Well that is what "We" would do but the son of God? Knowing it will cause drunkeness? Seems a bit out of wack for a saint, no? DD
all things in moderation Greed, Sloth, Glutton, Adultry, Vanity, Wraith, Envy these are all extremes It is good to want abundance. . but excess is GREED It is ok to be less than perfect in cleanliness but SLOTH is just filthy Good to eat. . .but not pig out Good to feel good about yourself . . but Vanity is ridiculous Good to have a strong sense of justice. . to the extreme it becomes Wraith It is good to see others and their accomplishments and want them for yourself also . . .but allowing it drive u . . for it to eat at you . . . ENVY It is ok to drink . . . but excess is bad This thread I think is more about EXCESS than the drive to be abundant Rocket River
Throughout human history until the last 100 or so years, beverages such as wine, beer and mead were much safer to drink than water as no harmful bacteria can survive in alcohol.
