"Well I never! How rude! Come on, R2! We're leaving! (R2: beep boop) I don't really care if you like this debate. (R2: mee moo) I don't like you, either. (R2: reeeee roooooh) Fine, go that way! I'MA LET U FINISH, R2!"
My top 2 would go to Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. After that I would pick ZZ Top (early days) and Queen. I liked them better than The Who. The Beatles get my all time best band, and Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull for originality and just plain great music. Michael gets my King of Pop vote.
Buddy Holly and the Crickets "The Crickets helped set the template for subsequent rock bands, such as the Beatles, with their guitar-bass-drums line-up, performing their own self-written material." - Wikipedia Buddy Holly was a pioneer of rock and roll back in the day. The Beatles even said, "we would have never known you could be just 3 pieces in a band if it weren't for Buddy Holly and the Crickets". Okay...I made that last quote up.
The Beatles. 50 years after their break up, they are still the most discussed and influential band of all time. No rock and roll band have had the global, culture wide impact like they have. It's not even close.
While Led Zeppelin certainly has the best hooks in so many songs, RUSH has a greater quantity of great hooks over more songs, with greater complexity, greater originality, and greater talent on instruments (looking at the entire band). I have to give this victory to RUSH over Led Zep by just a small amount. Pink Floyd in third place. All other bands are in a different, lower tier. Rolling Stones are crap. Always have been.
I think Rush sucks butt through a straw but even still I think this bbs has always had an unusually large number of rush fan boys for some reason.
I don't love Rush, primarily due to Geddy's vocals and the disjointedness of their songs. But that's prog rock, I'd say that for pretty much that whole genre. It's really hard to argue against the complexity/texture/innovation of their songs though when you break them down. Some bands are important in a certain place and time. I can get not listening to Rush in 2022 (I can say I've never made it through an album.) There are a lot of bands I don't like who influenced a lot of bands I do like. As I grow older I learn to respect the lineage. Greatest rock band of all time? No. I think I'll lean Zeppelin.
not a fan either, but i get why people love them. they are one of those bands where you either dont care about them or you are a total fan-boy. i dont think there are any casual rush fans...if you like them then you love them.
No one else is going to say it, but the Ramones are the greatest rock band of all time. For popular music I'll go with Led Zeppelin followed by AC/DC. My psychic agrees.
