Which of these is the greatest recording company of all time? Capitol/EMI/Apple Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles, etc. Sun Records Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Roy Orbison, etc. Death Row Records Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, etc. Columbia Records Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Prince, Billy Joel, etc. Other, Bad Boy, Rocket Records, Skunk etc? Any ideas???
Of those listed - Sun wins easily. It is ridiculous what Sam Phillips did. The "Sun sound" is pretty much impossible to duplicate.
Perfecto. ohh yeah. Death Row is a Record label. Aren't they under Geffen or something? I don't know how all this record label/recording company stuff works, ne 1 wanna give me a rundown?
Damn. I forgot about Hawthorne Heights. IMO Between the Buried and Me puts that company over the top. For the mere fact that BTBAM is the only band I listen to.
Sub Pop Records out of Seattle for sure. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Death Cab, The Shins, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, White Stripes among notables...
Bright Eyes? I thought they were on Saddle Creek? But they're officially tied with Victory in my book because of the Shins.
Yep, he's now on Saddle Creek. I was referring to Sub Pop as the record company that originally discovered and signed all these bands and artists.
trojan - the pinnacle of jamaican music. those box sets, which there seems to be about 500 of, are all great. i discovered alot of great music thru them - king tubby, gregory issacs and especially augustus pablo - the king of the melodica. he's like the bob marley of jamaican music. 4AD - british label which helped to popularize the shoegazer movement and ecstacy use among pale british kids. dead can dance, cocteau twins, lush and well as american bands like pixies and red house painters.
