    YOU hate Max.
YOU and the haters want to derail a thread about praise of a great Rocket hero.

Meeting Dream means that you have been blessed by the Greatest Rocket of them all. Its ok to be jealous. I was lucky to meet him and Otis and Horry..

Maybe one day you'll realize that Maxwell was a great Rocket, considering that he helped win a championship. but haters dont like good things like that.

man, you're such a hater that you don't even know your Rockets history. Madmax didnt' help us win any championship. IIRC, Carl Herrara was the one with the most impact. god, you talk all that smack and don't even know what you're talking about.

And you don't? I keep repeating the same thing over and over again because you have nothing that can negate the fact that Maxwell quit on his team for selfish reasons. He couldn't handle playing backup to a HOF player and as a result, karma bit him and he never did anything worth mentioning again. He might as well have hung up his sneakers after the 1994-95 season.

You have already posted "evidence" of why Maxwell left. He didn't want to play behind a MUCH better player and had too much ego to man up and act like a professional. You said as much earlier in this thread.

I do not "hate," I just see ALL the facts, not the ones that I cherry picked to support my position.

No more for you, you're stoned.

there was a contract dispute and the Rockets didn't give Max an extension.
On top of that, they traded for a 2 guard. Max felt it the Rockets organization (not his teammates) didn't want him anymore.

Maxwell deserves praise for what he did as a player and what he did for the Rockets. And obvious other people agree.

Notice how I dont care about Eddie Griffin or Pippen. They were selfish. Max was a proud guy, he didnt want to lose out to Clyde.

You think any of this Max hate would EVER HAPPEN if there was NO TRADE or contract dispute? You think Max just went AWOL for no reason?

Oh boy, you're lucky Saddam Hussein is not still alive, in power and in charge of Vernon History, because he would be mad and use everything in his arsenal including his ginormous cache of WMD to destroy that type of talk. He and his sons would produce a videotape of of Game 3 vs. Phoenix in 1994 - when we were about to go down 0-3, and Vernon was Vernon all over the Sunz, scored 31 in the second half, and singlehandedly turned the tide of that series - and things would get u-g-l-y.

Oh wait, no, that was Carl Herrera who scored 31. Forget it Saddam, Udai and Qusai, my mistake, it was Herrera who grew that huge pair and scored 31 against the Suns when we were down 0-2. My bad. It was Carl Herrera who turned that series around, the one that earned us a nickname that would eventually be the name of THIS VERY WEBSITE. All Carl. Great player, great citizen. Yeah with Maxwell's criminal history it's a shocker he went AWOL.

Thanks for clearing that up Tinman!

On another note, Tinman I would love to set up a clutchfans basketball game. Are you in? I mean if you are a "true warrior" like Max or Artest you should bring it. I will start a thread in the hangout when it's time to get a game together you just be ready to sign up.

And other players in the same position have played out their contract and become free agents. That is what a professional does.

And other players in the same position have played out their contract and become free agents. That is what a professional does.

Max deserves praise and admiration for everything he did for us up until '94. On that we completely agree. He was tough as nails, a clutch shooter, and a professional.

As you state here, he was both proud and selfish. He was so proud that he couldn't get past it to play behind a guy who was much, MUCH better than he was. He was too selfish to see past what HE wanted to understand that the TEAM needed something else.

A professional swallows his pride, lays his ego aside, and does what the team needs him to do. Max was not professional enough to do that.

Who cares about if this or if that? You admitted it here. Max went AWOL. He was under contract and he refused to live up to his end of the deal. The contract did not guarantee an extension and it did not guarantee that he would start. It guaranteed that if he fulfilled his obligations, the Rockets would pay him millions of dollars to keep playing.

Max broke his contract, went AWOL, and reaped the karmic rewards. He never got a lucrative contract again, he never sniffed the finals again, he certainly didn't get any big endorsement deals, and he lost the respect of many, many fans.

Max was unprofessional and he suffered the consequences of his actions.

speak for yourself and a handful of others. you can start that thread if you think Rocket fans should love Vernon. Hell, his teammates do (already posted). Last year Sam told NBA shootaround that he was happy his FRIEND Vernon Maxwell called for support during the playoffs. Mario mentioned him in the Rockets talk on NBA TV during a roundtable discussion with Clyde and other Rocket greats.
    Only POSITIVE.
I speak for fans who like Vernon and accepted him as who he is, not who you want him to be. I speak for the fans who enjoyed watching him play.

And thanks for your insight. I want everyone to know about Vernon, if they choose praise or hate. its doesnt matter. Let his legend be remembered by new and old.

if this sales a Rudy T book, or a makes someone rent some Clutch City DVDs, then I'm proud of us all.

I voted on the falling out of bounds shot to beat GS. Simply beautiful.

But you are not "accept[ing] him as who he is," you are putting forth a romanticized memory of him that does not include all of the facts.

I enjoyed watching him play. I did not enjoy seeing him act like a selfish spoiled brat because he couldn't get past his own inflated ego.

Again, it is not hate. It is a dislike for his selfish actions and distaste for his unprofessional behavior in '95.

I don't see that under the choices for " GREATEST MOMENTS in VERNON MAXWELL History"

Look at what's happened to me,
    I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
    It should've been somebody else.

    Believe it or not,
    I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
    Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

It's like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true ue ue.

    Believe it or not,
    I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
    Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.
