To the newbies, The old Rockets were like the Xmen. Dream=Professor X Otis=Collosus Sam=NightCrawler Horry=Iceman and Vernon was WOLVERINE. WOLVERINE. WOLVERINE! When the Xmen needed him the most, Wolverine saved them cause he was the badass of the mutants. Thanks Vernon! Saving us from evil!
Vernon Maxwell was a nut-case. But we got him for 50K and he brought us a ring. Not a bad deal. He ejected him at the right time though, and didn't need him after we got Clyde. I mean, how more awesome was that 95 team. Maxwell went nuts, we didn't have a freakin power forward, and we kept beating teams we were told we were going to lose too.
Before he left, Max told his fellow Xmen, Horry, Sam, Mario, and Kenny to fight on, even though he and Cyclops could not get along. So they did, and to this day, they are friends and heroes for all mankind and mutant kind.
Here here! I constantly hear from other fans that "Houston wouldn't have been there had MJ played those years." Mad Max on MJ (before he was JUST shooting jump shots) w/Dream in the middle, I'll take Rox every day.
Max just wanted to be the hero and that's it. and some people hate him for wanting glory. how many players have done nothing in the NBA today and complain about playing time? VSPAN VSPAN VSPAN?? This snake is dangerous - Houston Rockets; includes related articles on NBA playoffs Sporting News, The, June 5, 1995 by Ray Buck, Ted Rodgers LINK Maxwell, whose fall-away buzzer-beaters are almost legendary in Rockets franchise history, wants to play next season for John Lucas in Philadelphia or join one of the two expansion teams. His Madness has since admitted that playing time had everything to do with his sudden and inexplicable departure from the team. I'm pretty sure he didn't figure the Rockets would still be playing into June when he left. I know I didn't. Who did?
LINK "Playing with guys like Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Vernon Maxwell, Mario Elie and Kenny Smith really instilled a lot of toughness in me for this game of basketball," Cassell said. "They refused to baby me or let me be a baby. The first day of training camp, they went at me. At first, I thought they didn't like me. But after training camp, Vernon sat me down and told me why they went at me so hard. He said, We are going to need you, man. So why not get tested early instead of late.' This will make you tough."
