killswitch engage is good, but arch enemy..that woman sounds like she's puking when she sings, could never understand why ppl like that
I have to agree with you there. Never understood why people like Walls of Jericho or Bloodlined Calligraphy either. All female lead singers, both "metalcore"...or whatever, they all sound like they're retching. by the way, Becoming the Archetype is AMAZING if you are into metalcore or European-sounding thrash metal. They're way underrated but one of the best bands I've ever seen or heard, bar none.
Yea, I saw Arch Enemy in concert when they opened for Maiden and it totally wasn't my thing. When it comes to female metal singers, I prefer those like Doro Pesch from Warlock.
Can't believe that no one has mentioned Sepultura, the greatest band to ever come out of Brazil! Nowhere near what they used to be since they lost their lead singer, Max Calcaveras (sp) but when they had him, they were great. I will also mention Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Pantera as some of my personal favs to listen to in this genre. As for hard rock, ALL of these bands influenced the metal bands: Cream Led Zeppelin Jeff Beck Group (the one with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood in it) Mountain Deep Purple Some pretty great bands...
My list is very similar to others: Black Sabbath Megadeth (old) Metallica Pantera Judas Priest Queensryche Sepultura etc, etc, etc. Nirvana isn't, and never was, metal. I love Guns n Roses, but I wouldn't consider them metal, either. To me, GnR is as hard rock as you can get without being metal. I heard this band called Dragon Force awhile back. At first I thought I was listening to some Queensryche or Dream Theater that I had never heard before. That was my intro to Dragon Force. Anyway, I saw them at Meridian and they just killed: speed, proficiency, and a more classically-trained sounding singer. They were awesome live. There were a LOT of people there my age and older (I'm 31) who were all fed up with modern metal. Here's a clip: LINK The embedded option was "disabled by request." I went to the Heaven & Hell concert a couple weeks back. Megadeth and (Dio) Sabbath f*cking killed. Hell of a show. I was deaf, horse, and hung-over for what felt like ever.
i was there as well. Dio is timeless. the man is what, 65? he can still belt it with the best of them. as much as i loved Megadeth, i thought they played well but seemed to just want to get done with the show.
i missed game 6 because of this thing up in dallas.... man dio killed, except when they opened and he tried to jump. he did look old then megadeth was F'n awesome. maybe the houston show was different but they had an encore for us. machinehead did pretty good too.
I'm kicking myself for missing Heaven and Hell. I'm a big Sabbath fan and a HUGE Dio fan. I have a poster autographed by "Magic" Ronnie James and his entire "classic lineup" band in my living room and a 1983 "Holy Diver Tour" t-shirt in my closet. Both were given to me by (two different!!) women. Draw your own bizarre conclusions about that. I have managed to see Dio live three times. He can still sing for sure, but he looks like absolute hell. Of course, he never looked good. In 1983 I was turned three years old.
if you guys like heavier stuff, http://www.knon.org/ plays from midnight-4 am on saturdays (sunday i guess). you can listen online. it's awesome, i may be moving back to houston in july but i intend to listen to the station if i'm at a computer on saturday nights. i've heard of many many band i never would have known about through this program.
I dont really think Dave's heart is in it anymore. He did disband Megadeth awhile back cause he supposedly had hand problems, but in some interviews he sounded more like he just wantd some family time and the grind of the tour was getting to him. I am also kicking myself for missing that, I loved the H&H Sabbath lineup....and also really like Megadeth. anyway. I WONT be missing Rush on Aug 14...anyone else thinking of going?
i know Megadeth weren't headlining, but only played 50 minutes. i couldn't stop thinking, "That's it?" btw, what happened to the days when concerts started at 9 and wouldn't end til 1 or 2 in the morning? Megadeth started about 7:40, so the first half of the set was still during daylight hours. i just think the concert isn't the same.
thats the Woodlands for ya. They have noise limiting ordinances, the shows must be over by a certain time. It used to be when you had shows in enclosed spaces like the Summit, you didnt have to worry about those, especially since there were no residences nearby. Hell, I can remember playing certain clubs where I had to take my decibel meter outside to make sure we werent over the ordinance limit (<100 db 50 ft from the club iirc)
