More punk than metal but: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NSVeR2hl0z8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NSVeR2hl0z8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> This is metal though (no embed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPltBsWqLJg
Well, fair enough, I guess. My favorite metal band happens to be Meshuggah, but I realize that they haven't done nearly as much to advance the cause of metal than the three I listed. But they've certainly advanced the SOUND... pretty good at air guitar, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5A0q63_gbo
OH PLEASE. there is a reason why "those 80s bands" *still* get mentioned as best of all time. If you attempt to paint these groups into that "horrible 80s music pigeonhole" along with hair bands, you are guilty of musical ignorance. the only thing bands like Maiden (who started in late 70s actually) and AC/DC (started in mid 70s), Black Sabbath (started late 60s), Metallica and Pantera have in common with hair bands is they released albums in the same decade.(and played blues based rock with distorted guitars) At least educate yourslef before you attempt to dengrate the greatness of the early metal forefathers.
In this one case, so will I only cause he is a fellow rivethead thats the only thing we have in common afaik
I was going to bring up Anthrax...they aren't the "greatest of all time" but they were one of my favorites (and, of course, it helps that my wife liked them too and saw them in the 80's...so it is like love music now).
During an interview when asked what he thought about Metallica, Joey DeMaio (of Manowar) replied, "I'm sorry, I don't listen to country music."
Speaking of 80's bands, look whats coming out soon: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/10/first-tracks-from-guitar-hero-rocks-the-80s-revealed/
