Yeah but what really sucked about Intellivision was the paddle was permanently connected to the game system. If you broke a paddle (and those things broke VERY easily) you had to be without your entire game system for WEEKS-MONTHS before you could play again. God, I hated that.
Does anyone remember the games that were kind of a like a big viewmaster? You would hold them up to your eyes and use the buttons on the top (kind of where the focus knob on binoculars would be). I think the top also had a hole for light to come in to light the screen. I know I have played Pole Position on one and a few other titles, but I can't remember if these things had a name or what.
Yup. I played dozen's of those. Virtual Boy was similar to these. Inevitably, they all sucked donkey mucous.
We had Atari and it was cool, but when Intellivision came out it blew Atari away. Especially the sports games. Nintendo then blew away Intellivision. The 2600 version of pacman was an absolute insult to the consumer. So was Asteroids, Missile Command. Space Invaders was fine. My personal favorite Atari game was Air/Sea Battle.
Yeah, but which version? The clean, wholesome, innocent, girl-next-door Saved By The Bell version or the mature, sexy, b****y and slutty version of 90210?
Oh cmon, there is no question the answer is the Xbox. Superior graphics. Superior sound. Superior multiplayer service in Xbox live. The scope of what you can do games is immense - what'd you do in regular Nintendo, huh? Everything was 2D sidescrolling, BOO! With Xbox, you explore worlds i.e. Halo, Fable, Splinter Cell. Look at all the stuff you can do in the games with today's systems. From calling a certain type of player and telling where the blocker to be in a football game to using real life military tactics in a game like First Spectrum Warrior. Xbox gives more options than does PS2 or GC. Xbox is the only choice. And, don't tell me PS2 has way more games to choose from. That was so in the first year of Xbox's existence while PS2 had a years headstart on it, not so now.
I prefer the mature, sexy, b****y and slutty version. But, I wouldn't kick either of them out of bed for eating crackers.
Ooooh Oooooh Genesis was NOT crap. that system had tons of awesome games. If toejam and earl heard that they would kick your butt.
I'm an old-timer who had a lot of Atari games but I have to agree with Anti that Nintendo really revived the gaming industry. Mr. Meowgi has a point that what Atari did bringing the arcade games to the home was really revolutionary but there is just something about the Nintendo period. I wrote in the other thread that I bought one of those joysticks from the mall with the all the games and I still play them and I have a playstation II.
Okay, say you wanted to collect some older systems off of ebay or something. It sounds like some of the consoles can play previous versions, like the PS2 can play PS1 games. What about SNES/NES/N64? Can GameCube play any previous Nintendo systems? What about the Sega systems?
Colecovision could play Atari 2600 games (using an adapter that needed to be purchased separately) That's even better than what PS2 did. Colecovision not only played its own library of games, but played the games of its competitor. -- droxford
TG-16 was a good console just didn't have much marketing behind it. TurboChip was cool. NES is the legend though and was the best. 3 Words.....Tecmo Super Bowl.
The old NES was loads of fun. We would have some great battles in sports games at parties. Drinking a little and winners keep playing. I didn't even own a NES and I still ruled the baseball games. Also loved Contra.
I can understand why you left out the dreamcast, although I do think it's one of the very best consoles because of what an awesome emulator community it has. I have a CD with every NES game on it that I can throw into the DC and it works perfectly. I'd say the NES because it was so groundbreaking and such an important cultural piece. Virtually everyone in the world knows what an NES is, and everyone 25 and younger had one/knew someone who had one.
