The extremists on the right do not seem to realize, if they push hard enough, there will be a political revolt in the US.

I'm barfing at your behavior in this thread. You've used this thread as your personal toilet bowl to pinch off all the typical liberal turd logs into. First you started with your bashing of Christians, and now you've brought in your tired class warfare demagoguery and attack on "the wealthy".

Have you even bothered to read the details of the republicans proposal?

And it went right over your head.

We're NOT in a recession, that is my point. We've been out of the recession for years, yet still those SNAP numbers aren't coming down. They are rising. Why?

    This isn't rocket science.

In my humble opinion, everyone should start wearing hats.

Not sure how much that would help as some folks would still like burying their heads in the sand

Cut food stamps. Screw those people. If they can't eat and turn to crime, that's good as well. We'll just house them in our private prisons forever. Sure, it's a lot cheaper to just give out food stamps than to house people in prison, but how does the private prison establishment make money from that?

Republicans aren't concerned with spending money, they are concerned with who gets it. It is quite disgusting.

    From the article
the "sound byte" generate is a big threat to America. Intellectual laziness followed by a conditioned knee-jerk reaction. Take the time to actually read things -- you'll be a more informed individual if you do.

I ask again if you understand what a "recession is". Because clearly you don't. Or at least you think that a recession is just two consecutive quarters of negative growth. Of course it can take years and years for employment to recover long after a recession is technically over. That has been historically the case. Economics my friend.

And the rate of food stamp usage is not rising, it has peaked now and is projected to decline going forward by the CBO. Please, stop making stuff up!

    Yep. From CBS:

The House has voted to cut nearly $4 billion a year from food stamps, a 5 percent reduction to the nation's main feeding program used by more than 1 in 7 Americans.

The 217-210 vote was a win for conservatives after Democrats united in opposition and some GOP moderates said the cut was too high.

The bill's savings would be achieved by allowing states to put broad new work requirements in place for many food stamp recipients and to test applicants for drugs. The bill also would end government waivers that have allowed able-bodied adults without dependents to receive food stamps indefinitely.

How DARE they allow states to require people to work or attempt to find work while receiving food stamps? And how DARE they jerk benefits from lazy-a$$ people who want to go year after year without working and live on the dole? The outrage?!?

You freaking mouthbreathing morons gasping that this is the end of welfare as we know it, and that Republicans are trying to murder poor people with this legislation (which will never get through the Senate anyway) need to step back. It's a 5% cut spread over 10 years out of a piece of pie that has grown by over 70% over the last 5 years. Give me a break.

Whatever comes out of conference will probably cut at most 1% to 1.5%, so don't worry, you'll still be able to buy your food with your Lone Star card and your alcohol and cigarettes with your cash.

    This.

Liberals, you need to start policing your own posters' intellectual laziness. It's a problem.

Food stamps are a huge boon for companies like walmart. Its not like this bill has any chance of passing the senate or the president. So the republicans can beat their chest and say well we took a stand and tried to cut the federal budget by .13%.

I was curious where the class warfare wingnuts went. When it's raising taxes on billionaires it's class warfare but "balancing the budget" on the backs of the poor and hungry is just the right thing to do.

That wasn't the case for 85% of food stamp recipients as has been pointed out.
    Nice

The fact of the matter is that most of you are arguing about something that you know nothing about. Case in point:

    From the article:
From the CURRENT employment requirements to receive SNAP:
This is essentially just a bunch of hyperbole being thrown around by both sides. They aren't really cutting dick. The GOP is posturing for their base and the Dems are doing the exact same thing. What they are proposing is simply the way it ALREADY WORKS here in Texas and most other places. Usually the exceptions are in remote locations where unemployment is through the roof and there just aren’t any jobs at all.

I worked in public service for several years and dealt with this stuff everyday. Fraud usually comes into play when people manage to weasle thier way out of ABAWD status one way or the other. "Cutting funds" will never fix that and will likely make it more rampant.
