not everyone views people as helpless halfwits that will starve if not fed by the government

just a different outlook on humanity

please contribute to your local food bank if you are concerned about people starving

EDIT: I do think the GOP is politically tone deaf here. Why would you not go after corporate welfare first rather than food stamps (they're both bad)?

There are way too many red lines in this thread for me to make sense of it.

Did you catch the part about 85% of the recipients being children, elderly, or disabled? Because it was bolded pretty big.

Cut all food stamps tomorrow and though 85% of recipients are children, disabled, or elderly, they'll be fine. Commodore's America, an outlook on social Darwinism.

Was cutting all food stamps part of the proposal? Or are you just trolling?

I'm speaking to Commodore's different outlook on humanity where receiving government benefits labels you a helpless halfwit.

So pass a jobs bill or something that actually boosts employment. Not sure why the conclusion is cut food stamp benefits when its clear that the economy isn't exactly roaring.

Food stamp eligibility didn't change with Obama and yet the number of people on food stamps grew. It corrolates pretty well with the fact that tons of people are unemployed or underemployed since the economy tanked.

Yet you choose to blame Obama and the Democrats for this.

Reading the news over the past few years, what I find funny that America is basically following in the footsteps of China when it comes to its policies.

Uh, no, we are not. America has a unique ability to create its own problems, it's own imagined problems, and it's own misguided policies to deal with both the real and imagined nuttiness that makes up this country.

    We ain't China.

92% of the money from the food stamp program goes to actual people. There are very few charities that can match that level of efficiency. In fact, food stamps is rated as the most impactful program in fighting poverty and simultaneously boosting a weak economy.

Also, food stamps don't discourage employment because for every dollar you earn over the limit of eligibility, your benefits are only reduced by 25 cents or so. So you have incentive to work and as the economy improves many people do get off of food stamps.

Finally, the food stamp program offers education around nutrition and eating better to help low-income households find ways to feed their kids on a low budget. Fact is, food stamps has a large impact on decreasing the malnutrition rate in this country.

If you eliminate this program, you will have more people suffer. You will make more people desperate and you will have many many more children, in the millions, go hungry. That is the fact.

Deckard, you have been sentenced to a work camp for re-education. Please report immediately.

Here's the data undoctored and not cut off to make it look like it's rising endlessly. This is my problem with you guys, you cut the data to support your point at any cost - basically it's just outright lying

Sorry SL42, but.. exactly WHY did you think that an enlarged graph depicting the exact same phenomenon Commodore posted would help your case? There is no denying that demand for SNAP has dramatically increased over the past few years. I think that was the point.

Your post only reinforced it. Accidental or not.

Wonder what the impact would be to supermarkets around the country if this was passed or better yet ALL food stamps were just ceased tomorrow.

When the outcry from corporations like wal-mart were added to the voices of the poor and jobs are being cut left and right due to the sharp cuts in business would the GOP then take notice?
