What does this have to do with it. I hate having to "defend" the Spurs...I mean, they're the Spurs...boo, hiss, in state rival. But, the season was the same length for everyone, right? As if 50 games isn't a lot. Even with the Rockets having such a rocky start, after 50 games you've seen what kind of team they are. I don't understand this logic at all. If the season was forever shortened to 50 games next year and thereafter, would all of the championship teams into the future have an asterik?
Robinson was a second fiddle when he won the title, playing Otis Thorpe (14 and 11) to Duncan's Olajuwon. He was a contributor, but he was never able to lead his team over the hump (and was not the same guy after back surgery).
I agree, I just think he was more than just a contributor. He was more than Otis Thorpe or Dennis Rodman. I think he was more than a "role player" but clearly less than the "star player". My point is just that it is stupid to even bring him up in this argument about greatest center without rings. The fact is he has 2, at least one of which, imo, he was an irreplaceable member of the squad that got it. What's more, he was more or less indirectly the reason they got there. His handing over the reigns to Duncan early that season, when they were just 6-8, turned the team around...something a lot of your greatest players have problems doing. Against the Knicks in the Finals, for example, while Duncan put up 33 points, 16 rebounds in Game 1, Robinson dished out 7 assists. In Game 2, Duncan was still dominant, but Robinson had 5 blocks. He learned to be great and irreplaceable in other ways to let the team win that year. I still don't think Robinson is necessarily even a top 10 center of all time....but he does have 2 rings.
LOL that's funny..i remember he was the catalyst for Shawn Kemp being disgruntled in Seattle and wanting out. Then when Kemp got that fat contract, so did he.
Do you freaken read, that wasn't my argument, I said he deserves a different title... I disagree on the fate of the Spurs w/o Robinson. You put a guy like Brad Miller, slightly above average center, maybe even Rasha, the Spurs teams still win their titles (the Lakers and Shaq were still way to disorganized-it wasn't like a close series where DR versus these guys make a differece. Spurs would have still beat Portland the Knicks too). In fact You put the 94 OT (Hakeem's 2nd fiddle) on that team (move Duncan to center) and that team still wins the title. Bottom line JayZ, even if you disagree with some of the particulars of above, surely you don't disagree that DR never delivered a title as THE GUY. Those facts are clear and close to impossible to argue against.
