I wish I was the first to mention this game, but I'm glad it did get a mention. Not an all-time classic, but I loved playing it when I just wanted to beat the cr@p out of something. Plus the teams were so over the top.

I am thinking of digging my old xbox out of the closet to play it for old time's sake since it's not 360 compatible.

Some of those matches were hyper intense - using some of the lesser teams to beat the champion/end team was very, very difficult even if you were really good. I remember literally being on the edge of my seat trying to hang on against those guys.

EDIT - dude it shows up on the backwards compatibitity list now, I am definitely playing

It's been BC'd? Man, I've got to find a copy somewhere. I loved playing as the Protectors and scoring 3 or 4 quick goals then basically beating on the other team for the rest of the game.

Don't think I played Master of Orion unfortunately, so maybe that's my problem. :(

I can't really think of too many games, partly because my favorites that I can remember were usually pretty popular (although some were FAR less popular than some of the games in this thread IIRC).

Here are a few (mostly RPGs):

    Hyperblade

Basically a kid's RPG from what I remember, but I was a kid when I played it, so I look back fondly on it. :)

I don't remember much about this game...not even sure I played it, but the video intro looked very familiar.

    Final Fantasy Endless Nova
    [IMG]
It was a user-created RPG for RPG Maker 2000 IIRC, so if you're a FF fan, don' be shocked if you never heard of this game (not a official release by Square or anything like that).

I'm not really sure if they were all great though...I can barely remember playing some of them. Strangely enough, I started looking for pics for these games, but it turned out I could find a lot more on Youtube for the most part. I <3 Youtube.

This game is a challenging, georgous, space real time strategy game.
    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7PG0OpwHBo0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7PG0OpwHBo0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Did I mention this game is georgous?

I wish there were more games that were based in space like this, since I love that setting for a game.

There's one game I remember playing when I was a kid and had a Sega Genesis. It was a sidescroll adventure/rpg the way I remember it. I hated it cuz it made me nauseous and that it had so much dialogue. But I've been wanting to pick it back up for years only I don't remember the name.

So here's my best description. It involves an ocarina, but it had Mario elements in that you jump over gaps, and hop on fish that jump out from the sea to make it back across land. One of the key parts of the game was learning the right button combos to the ocarina so it would unlock dungeons I believe. The first level after jumping over gaps of water by jumping on fish lead to a hut, and tree house. Any of this ring a bell for anyone? It wasn't a very popular game afaik.

Kind of off topic: With the recent threads on video games the past few weeks, I dusted off my Xbox. The problem is the lens is pretty dirty. At first the Xbox couldn't read anything fight off the bat. Then I used a cleaner I have (it's a cd w/ tiny brushes on it), and it helped a little. The Xbox will be able to get to the menu, and I might be able to play for a minute, but then a message will pop up that the disc is too dirty. I've tried multiple games and they are all in good condition. I've also used the disc cleaner at least 10 times, and it's not helping anymore. Any recommendations? Do I have to take this thing apart?

BTW, I just got a hold of HOMM3 and I'll probably try to play it tonight. I'm looking forward to it.

Damn someone beat me to it. Warsong (Langrisser series in Japan) was the first Strategy RPG I've played.

As for the games listed, I've probably played about 60-70% of them, but I guess I might be a gaming nerd.

Ah! Heathen! Go play Master of Orion II immediately!

Dear god... MAD props on this one. I think I still have this sitting a drawer somewhere. Great game.

    Meanwhile, here's a gem I forgot about:

Why nobody ever thought to create a great, more modern FPS western, I'll never know.

Got this on a whim at Target. Turned out to be lots of fun to play with the Mrs.

At the time, this game was really impressive, with a good storyline and creepy mood.

You should be able to find Master of Orion on www.abandonia.com, and Master of Orion II may be found somewhere on BitTorrent.
