My favorite side scrolling shooter, complete with hilarious nonsensical cover.

    How old are you?

I ask because anyone who was around during that games heyday knows how incredibly popular and widespread that game was...

Conquest: Simple and primitive but very addictive.

I don't think it is... I've heard the title names a lot, I just never touched it because I was petered out on strategy games (I assumed it was real-time). It doesn't really fit the thread, but I'm still happy to know about it.

I don't consider Armored Core or Ace Combat at all obscure either, but whatever...

It's a Strategy RPG. It's deep as heck and has a great open ended story with numerous endings.

    Out of This World/Another World

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_World_(video_game)

I remember my dad buying this game back in the early 90s. It was one of the best games I can remember playing. I'm sure the graphics wouldn't stack up now, but it seems like they were really awesome for the time. The story/strategy/gameplay were all top notch. I don't know many people that remember it.

this thread has turned into games no one's heard of into "games you think are underrated or popular back in the days".

    vagrant story. - PS1/Square.
legend of the mystical ninja aka goemon - SNES/Konami

many many more...too bad my memory is shot.

sony could make a ton of money if they could license square ps1 games on PSN.

Jet Set Radio for the Dreamcast was cool for me. One of the first, if not THE first, cell-shaded game that I really appreciated for its art. Plus, it was mad fun tagging up walls. a graffitti artist on skates. very cool

    From the Sega era...
    Bonanza Bros.
    ToeJam and Earl
    General Chaos
Uncanny X-Men (got bad reviews, but I enjoyed that game...I never beat that game)
