The Kiss of Death was a Sunday afternoon game. The Hakeem baseline spins, and up and unders were either TNT or TBS.
Attendance has nothing to do with national viewership... which is what ultimately determines the television broadcast rights. More people could be going to games because of new arenas (Dallas drew flies in Reunion, Rockets would draw less than 10,000 if they were mediocre at the Summit, Clippers were awful in the coliseum, Denver, Golden St., etc.). I guess there is a tad more parity today... and that also can help with attendance levels. But, the NBA still has a long way to go before it gets back to the Magic/Larry/MJ status level. Its a distant fifth right now in national interest behind the NFL, College Football, MLB, and College Basketball.
Saturday afternoon. Sunday was when Indiana beat the Knicks at MSG, making it twice in two days that a road team had won a game 7 (it hadn't happened ever in a ridiculously long time before that weekend).
It's funny, I actually watched every game featured in that video. I remember just about every shot, except some of the later ones. I used to LOVE NBC's opening segment. It would fire me up to watch a preseason game between the clippers and the spazz!
The intros were the best ever. Just the plot and story lines they would chose go head and shoulders above anything that goes on today. Its sad to see how fast it changed. ABC made it more appealing to the casual viewer i guess, making it much more entertainment based (popular music during the telecast, 30 shots of eva at spurs games, only way to make the spurs look exciting i guess) Throwing loud guys who demand attention and analysts that do nothing but bash is what the average public wants to see i suppose.
I just loved how they keep using the same theme every year when the champions would be crowned and showed the highlights of their road to the Playoffs in the credits. "Winning it All" by Outfield that song always gave me chills....
i have faith in the nba. i believe the post-jordan era has ended since wade won a title, the wade/lebron/melo rivalries would be INCREDIBLE if they reach full potential (ex: a new bird/magic rivalry but with 3 players. OOoOOo ) haha.
God that was a great video but for Houston to be back to back Champs they didn't show anything of Hakeem that really ticked me off...the put more emphasis on the Lakers than Houston....even San Antonio got more props...what's up with that...
That video sucked. They do the Rudy T speech, and then skip straight to Jordan and say "He's back." It's like they wanted to forget the Rockets ever won those two rings. Makes sense since they would never show the beloved New York Knicks getting their asses handed to them. And that "the Shot" moment with Stockton sticking it to us in game 6 pissed me off even more. It's like they picked the best camera angle to hide Malone bear hugging Drexler out of bounds. Screw NBC. I'm glad they don't host it. Screw ABC as well. They're horrible too. I'll stick with local radio and television telecasts where the commentators actually give a damn about the Rockets franchise.
NBC's production is just damn good. I was watching some sports entertainment show on NBC this evening when there was a comercial for the NFL on NBC Sunday Night Football. It's only July, but I'm ready for some football on NBC.
