The ratings are driven by the host. Rush (and I listen to him sometimes... want to know what the other side is thinking... his side, at any rate) is very entertaining and funny. Well, he used to be funnier, imo. It's Rush who gets the ratings, not his "philosophy". It's Rush who drives Conservative talk radio. If Rush ever quits or just become hard for his audience to listen to, the overwhelming dominance of his show and it's influence that spills over into TV and other Rush radio wannabe's, will decline immensely. I hope there is one or more Liberal Rush equivalents out there. So far, they haven't appeared.
Know what is the fastest growing radio show in history and #2 only to Rush right now? Sean Hannity Live.
You don't get it. Why would a public radio station show care about the size (or even the demographics) of its audience. It is not like they are selling commercial slots.
I disagree. Rush is popular because he has a great sense of humor and personality, that is true. However, his record setting ratings come from his ability to connect with his listeners. Rush says what Middle America is already thinking, in a format that is highly entertaining.
No, as usual, you don't get it. Our tax dollars go to help subsidize NPR. We have a right to know that NPR is representing all of America, not just LA and New York. We should know who listens to NPR so we can determine what areas of the network need improvement. Measuring ratings would also tell us if we are getting a return on our investment. Why spend millions on radio programming that few people ever hear? NPR wouldn't survive without the contributions it gets from mainly corporations (that the government encourages for tax purposes), and direct government outlays to a lesser extent. Remember, non-profits solicit private money that eventually is taken directly out of the tax revenue stream, so NPR is basically a tax payer funded entity. NPR doesn't measure ratings because the market does not require the radio network's services, and the dearth of like programming confirms this theory.
The Phil Hendrie Show is truly the funniest show in the history of radio. See my sig. He has said in the past that he is a Democrat but not a liberal. He was for the war in Iraq, but he voted for Gore. He mocks everyone equally! For the record, I'm a conservative but I think 99% of talk radio hosts are boobs. Just riding Rush's coat tail.
Guess again. Almost all of the NPR funding comes from listeners like you. Using your frail logic about nonprofit taxes, the government is also funding your church. Thus, maybe the government should have something to say about what is said there.
If you mean that the govt gives actual grants to NPR then could you provide evidence of this? This is what I assume you mean when you say NPR is subsidized. If you mean that NPR is "subsidized" because of tax breaks for people and corporations who contribute then that is a misuse and misleading use of the word as it is properly understood. Because based on that "definition", almost all religious organizations are "subsidized" by the govt and thus by your "logic" all such religious organizations should be "representing all of America". We should know attends these churches to "determine what areas need improvement."
Come on, JH. Step back and extract foot slowly from mouth... be careful, you don't want to choke or lose a tooth. And, for heaven's sake, don't sneeze. You might lose a toe.
Vermont Rep. Bernie Sanders had his first radio show on Monday afternoon. The Nation columnist Eric Alterman was his guest. What a great leadoff hitter!
Yeah I read something about that and O'Reilly took the report personally because he said they simply were not doing that bad even though they did not meet up to the initial expectations of competing with Rush. He felt someone was feeding Drudge information to bring him down. I love it! Anyhow, his representative or someone also made the valid point of if you want to compare O'Reilly's show with Rush's based on ratings and then call O'Reilly's a failure because his ratings aren't on par with Rush then you have to call every radio show a failure because Rush's ratings are so far ahead of everyone else.
Phil Hendrie is the best! But I never knew he was a democrat. Oh well you learn something new everyday.
When is his show on now? They replaced him with Hannity. He's pretty funny. If he wasn't such a prick he would be funnier though.
He's not a prick, but his "guests" are. It's not on in Houston anymore despite my many angry emails to Ken Charles at 950 I'm such a fan, I pay 6.95 a month to hear it on the internet. If you're also a fan, you should check it out. Lot's of great archives. www.philhendrieshow.com Ted Bell is the man. After all...HE'S TED BELL!!!
Yeah, he is hilarious. I think he was just too impatient with the people who call in. He should let them talk and sound really stupid. My favorite was the Hispanic dude. On one show he was claiming that Survivor was total BS because he saw a McDonald's wrapper, and he had all types of inside scoops. He nailed the accent. Also, the gay journalist. "As a gay man and a gay journalist, I know who is going to win the election." LOL. It's so funny because I hear people on tv always say "As a journalist, blah blah blah."
