Bingo. I am a Houston Sports fan. I love all the pro teams. I never watched Football once the Oilers left, and now that the Texans have arrived I can't get enough NFL.

I don't think there is any chance Yao would want to leave Houston. I am sure the Rockets organization are going to be willing to pay him what he wants. He is our new Franchise player. He is the new guy to build this team around.

I find it hilarious that the Lakers thread has Kobe only fans, and Shaq only fans. They hate each other so much. just like we have SOF, and YOF. Why can't we all be friends and support our players?

An interesting post. You're of course right that pro-teams are really just corporate money making entities. At the same time that doesn't change that we have an emotional attachment to our teams. Sports teams are all about civic pride and civic symbolism. While yes they are supposed to be money making entities no different from Enron or Worldcom their attachment to us fans is much more.

I don't live in Houston but am from their and my loyalty is both because they Houston infront of their name but also because I grew up watching the players and organization. If they left I would probably still hold some loyalty to them, at least as long as they have same players, but will also root for another NBA team that comes to Houston. The same way as I still root for the TN Titans but like the Texans too.

One more thought KD regarding sports and corporations.

In many ways pro-sports isn't a money making venture for the owners and the cities they are in. While some will debate the value of having stadiums few will debate the economic impacts for the city of having an all star team or a team of scrubs. This is most clearly obvious with Green Bay where the public can actually buy stock in the team. Next to none care about the stock price or dividends out of Packer stock and pretty much none of them will sell their stock. What matters to owners of Packers' stock is the if they win and their connection to Green Bay.
