oh yeah the o'bannon brothers kicked ass. i thought ed would be great in the pros but it didn't happen
man, I was about to say were the hell was Ed Obannon, Come to think of it every UCLA player has sucked these last 7 years save Baron Davis. Also - The Entire 94 draft minus Kidd The Whole 95 draft minus Garnett and the whole 97 draft minus Duncan and T-Mac.
I remember Acie had one real good game in his rookie season (with Toronto??), then he came to the Aussie Leagues and played well for the Sydney Kings. But they dropped him (and every other import) and he wound up in Europe I think. Don't know where he is now. On a side note, Korleone Young (who also played for the Kings last season, until he got injured) was held responsible for a car accident that severly injured another member of the Kings. I'm not that sure on the details, but they released him shortly after.
Ron Brewer-- played alongside Sidney Moncrief at Arkansas. He was a helluva college player. I could never figure out why he tanked in the pros. Melvin Turpin. Oliver Miller's role model. Picked ahead of Charles Barkley. Ouch. Sidney Wicks. Absolutely dominated the college game. Very mediocre pro.
You're either thinking of Scotty Thurman (Great college player with an amazing outside shot who came out of college early and didn't get drafted but had a small stint with the N.J. Nets.) OR Corey Beck (Great defender and had some so-so offense skills, played a lot of ball with Charlotte and at one point started for them but I don't know where he is now.)
If you look at my original thread, people like Brad Daugherty would qualify as his career was short. "I was thinking that many great college players have a very disappointing pro career, didn't even make it anywhere, or simply had a very short career: " Under that scenario, even Ralph Sampson would qualify. He played great when healthy and then his career was over.
Don't call someone a bad pro-player because their careers ended due to injury. Like if a guy has bad knees you can't judge him really.
Corliss Williamson was great in college because he was strong and there weren't lots of 7' centers. However, he's a tweener in the NBA like Marcus Fizer is, too slow to guard the 3 and too weak to guard the 4.
so what would be your rankings for schools that create the most nba busts, mine would go as follows: 1) Duke (Laetner, Avery, Thomas Hill.....) 2) Arkansas (Williamson, Thurman, Day, Mayberry....) 3) Kentucky ("Sky" Walker, Sheppeard, Padgett, Bowie...) 4) UCLA (O'Bannon bros, Edney, Bailey....) 5) Kansas (Vaughn, Cheneworth, Manning....) 6) UNC (Montross, Abdenalby, Walter Davis, Jordan (joke!)
I thought manning had a pretty good start to his career with the CLIPS then he got traded and blew out his knee, or he might have blew out his knee before he got traded...but anyway he got health and blew out his other knee i think. My list would have to be Toby Baily (UCLA) Victor Paige (Georgetown) Chris Porter (Aurburn) Ed Cota (UNC)
Tim Perry, Temple Jeff Grayer, Iowa St. Stacey King, Okla Randy White, La Tech Todd Lichti, Stanford Willie Burton, Minn Doug Smith, Mizzou Mark Macon, Temple any guard that played for Tom Penders @ UT
