    # 1 How do you figure? Jeremy Lin's cap hit (http://www.spotrac.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/jeremy-lin/) and Trevor Ariza's cap hit (http://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/trevor-ariza/) are practically the same. Why couldn't we have dumped Lin, signed Ariza, and kept Asik. At this moment, I cannot buy the idea that the Asik trade netted us Ariza.

    # 2 I've seen stats posted on this site that Asik's productivity last year was on par with the previous year. I HATE the idea of giving into pouting. Where's the leadership in the organization? Instead, they have to just give him away for practically nothing to a Western Conference competitor?

Basically, after everybody piling up on me with the insults and disrespect, I have patiently listened to the arguments against mine (from the few posters nice and respectful enough to explain them) and I still have the same stance on the trade - it was stupid - at this moment. All of the other posters can just f off.

Remember you're comparing a starting Asik to a bench Asik. Big difference.

I really hope we can trade that NO pick soon (aka our move to get our 3rd star) so we can start rooting for Asik's success wholeheartedly. He was great for us and its a shame that the second superstar we could acquire just happened to play his position, making him redundant.

instead they actually got value for him. They didn't give in when he pouted last year but the result was him sitting out half the season and being unproductive for a large portion of it when he was only getting limited minutes. What good does it do the Rockets to keep him around to expire when he isn't going to play up to his capabilities?

The first round pick they got is the same kind of pick that ended up landing them Harden. It is way too early to say it was a bad trade for many reasons but not waiting to see what that pick turns into is the biggest one.

Asik was a dude that had sand in his Vag from the minute howard was signed. He didn't play for over half the season and when he did he was badly out of shape the first month back and contributed little. When we hit the playoffs he was an asset, but it was always in the cards that he was a goner with that stupid contract and his attitude issues with the team as a whole after Morey acquired DH. Yeah he had a nice game tonight, but a few key facts to keep in mind: 1) They played Orlando, 2) Asik had 14/17/2 in 34 mins, T Jones had 16/13/3 in 31 mins and most importantly 3) He has Anthony Davis carrying the load up front as a natural PF vs C.

I for one am happy the douchebag is gone, and think Morey pulled off a killer deal for him. In the words of the infamous Aaron Rogers R E L A X....

well if you actually understood what you were posting, you would also know that we still have the ~8M trade exception generated from the Lin trade that we can still use to acquire a player that makes up to that salary along with everything the Asik trade netted us after having him for cheap for 2 years.

NO basically paid $15M (8M cap hit) + 1st rd pick for Asik + non guaranteed players (that we then used to get 2 2nd round picks + terry) to have him for 1 year with the possibility of him leaving this upcoming offseason if someone offers him a large contract... seems like we won the trade IMO, even though Asik can be a great player and will make a huge impact on the Pellies this year.

Asik was miserable in HOU once dwight arrived. He basically played only half a season and couldnt play along Dwight. Although hes a really solid center, he wont be missed as much as everybody says.

Easily the biggest loss of the offseason talent wise, but a ~20 minute per game backup can only make so much of a difference. Not saying we couldn't use him, but he wasn't going to be here past this season anyway. We got a good haul out of the trade.

I liked Asik and I think he will be a great addition for the Pelicans.

However, having Howard on the team made him redundant/luxury that even if we could afford to keep...he didnt want to be here.

Its a shame that we got a star who played the same position as Asik. Had Dwight been a PF star with range, we would have kept Asik and could have been contenders.

end of the day it doesnt matter if a player is the 2nd or 3rd option, wat matters are championship rings... dwight cant b injury free the entire season so asik was a great backup.. can anyone backup dwight this season as well as asik did last yr?

I guess you would need to understand how the salary cap works. When Jeremy Lin was traded we received a Traded Player exception equal to the amount of salary (counted against the cap) sent out (about 8~ million) minus any incoming salary (0). The Rockets can use the TPE during the year to trade for other players if they want but if they keep the Jeremy Lin TPE it counts against the cap just as Jeremy Lin's actual salary counted against the cap. So technically, even though the Rockets traded Jeremy Lin off of the team their cap situation stay's the same unless the renounce the TPE (which they do not want to do). They could have renounced the TPE and signed Ariza out right if they had wanted to but why loose your valuable TPE when you can just include Aiza in the Omar Asik trade and keep the valuable TPE to use in a trade (to match salaries) later in the season.

Basically by keeping the 8 million Jeremy Lin TPE the Rockets have the ability to trade for another player of equal or less salary without have to send out a player of equal salary.

end of the day it doesnt matter if the other player does not want to be on the team and is a constant distraction.

Is it our fault that in his first year, he had stone hands and in his 2nd year, he pouted and acted unprofessional?

We'll see in our head to head if they can beat Howard and Jones.
