I do like Red Bull as a nickname for Beverly, but Clutch > Grantland so that's a no go

    Wow... you folks are sensitive!

#1) It wasn't an article, it was a blog post. Therefore the journalistic parameters that you would expect from a Grantland "article" are not there.

#2) To me, it was all praise, with the exception of Sharpe openly admitting to being a Rockets hater. Yeah, they fall into hyperbole in a few of their statements, but again, it seemed to me that they appreciated his old-school, tough, "Glove-esque" defensive style.

#3) I took the blog post as three dudes, sitting around in the office, playing around on Youtube and talking basketball. Who among us hasn't resorted to a little hyperbole trying to make his friends laugh while simultaneously making a legitimate point?

#4) It's OBVIOUS from the title of the post to the copious amounts of Clutchfans Youtube posts that 100% of the research from this came from Clutchfans. That they didn't name drop or give credit is pretty ***tty to me. My wife (a photographer) got a picture of hers published in Food and Wine and they failed to give her a photo credit. That made me livid.

If you're mad about #4... I agree. Otherwise, I think their tongue was firmly in cheek and we're just a little too protective of our guys.

Andrew Sharp is blatantly wrong - just off the top of my head, Curry has praised Bev for making him a better player and loving that match up. That quote made me respect Steph more.

I like Patbull, it's unique and descriptive at the same time. Don't want corporatism in Pat's nick, a la Redbull. Plus, if he's ever traded (knock on wood), they'll have to change his name? That's dumb.

Or, Beverly "Steals" Hillbilly anyone? :p

Agree- they talk more about his dirty plays than anything else.

Look, Beverley is intense. I have never not seen him going 150%. The play against Westbrook, unfortunately, might come to define him as a 'dirty' player for awhile.

He talks trash. He gets in people's faces and hounds the ball like crazy. I would absolutely hate him if he played for another team.

But when I think of a dirty player, I think of cheap shots and trying to hurt the other player. I still think that Westbrook play (the one where Westbrook extended his leg when he saw he might lose the ball) was a mistake. And I haven't seen any other examples of Beverley, even with all of his intensity, taking cheap shots at another player.

I think it's alright. Someone had a sign with that on it the very first night at Toyota Center.

The only thing I got out of that article is a burning desire for Beverley's nickname to be "The Itch."

Look, saying Beverley's D is so pesky that our opponents' pgs need to put on some Deep Woods Off before they get on the court is an example of hyperbole and praise.

Calling Beverley's play on Westbrook a "cheap shot", or this gem from Ryan-

"You’re going up for a dunk? Cool, Patrick Beverley is going to take your legs out. You think it’s all good, dribbling toward the sideline as you call timeout? Spartak is diving at your knees, meniscus be damned."

are not hyperbole and they are definitely not praise.

Anyone reading that piece, who knew nothing about Beverley, would come away from it thinking he is a cheap, dirty player, not matter how jokey they made it.

I vote for BTD "Basketball Transmitted Disease". Once he attaches to you, the only thing you have to look for is that burning irritation that sticks with you until he leaves. I also want to propose "Weed" since he is like the weed in your backyard that you just can't kill.

FWIW I went out of my way NOT to steal Elie's nickname. I am in no way shape or form endorsing the attribution of Beverley as the Junkyard Dog.

This article to me was representative of the greater national media out-ing itself as Rockets haters. At least we're clear on that point now. This team has officially reached "Us Vs Them" status. And you know what? **** 'em.

Everyone is just sitting on the one guy who said he already hates the Rockets in the first place. What about Simmons? I think he had some great things to say about Bev. But I guess people will only focus on the negative.....

I read Grantland all the time. It was funny backhanded complements from Shimmons and Sharp, but straight up hate/lies from Ryan.

"This is Beverley. He will do anything it takes to gain a competitive advantage. Even steal your horse. You’re going up for a dunk? Cool, Patrick Beverley is going to take your legs out. You think it’s all good, dribbling toward the sideline as you call timeout? Spartak is diving at your knees, meniscus be damned."

There's no tongue in cheek here. He's talking about Bev like he's Bruce Bowen kicking people in the face and taking out peoples feet.
