I can see where you are coming from, but think it is too narrow of a definition. In that way, there are like...two contenders for the NBA title each season? I think you'd instead just call them Finals Participants haha. And I think, in a 7 Game Series, we'd beat CLE, so that'd eliminate them from "contender" status. So really, the only contender for a ring this year is GSW. Cool, that makes sense. EDIT: If you watched Games 1 and 2 at GSW, you'd see how close we came to stealing either or both of those games. Suddenly, different series where WE might be in the Finals. I mean, I believe GSW is a better team than us this year...but based on Nate Silver's ELO system, they are a HISTORICALLY GREAT team this season, only behind the late 90's Chicago Bulls. Third best ELO of all time. Let's not forget that. Health and luck always play huge factors. Everyone thought the OKC that got to the Finals would constantly repeat due to talent and youth...where have they been since then? Injured. GSW has had better health and luck this season than most so were able to play at a very high level. Curry is also unbelievable. If they can keep it up for a number of years, possible future dynasty. Or they could get injuries next year and suddenly barely make it out of the first round. Who knows.
I can accept all of Josh's flaws.... except the FTs - doesn't make any sense he can't shoot 60% minimum - we already employ enough bad FTers He's an emotional player. Missing freebies can't help that aspect.
