I like the first comment about Utah, which was the first thing I thought of, too. They've decided not to be good, and realized they'd have to spend much of the money anyway. Still, it was an expensive price to pay.. just not as expensive as Zach made it out to be.

I also think he overvalues how Iggy will be able to help GSW - he will, but Zach undervalues the loss of Jack and Landry. He didn't even mention Landry.

Finally, wrt the Hornets/Pelicans, while I also really like Jrue Holiday and would love to have him as the PG on the Rockets, I can't really understand much of what the Pelicans are doing as a whole. Did they really need Jrue? If so, did they really need him at teh expense of a guy who absent an ACL tear is the likely #1 pick in teh draft PLUS a top pick next year... which MIGHT be as low as the mid-teens, but might be as high as #6-#10 like they were this year?

Yes, Tyreke Evans had become surprisingly efficient, with a solid PER, on the lowest usage of his career - all good things for him. But Vasquez had only gotten better every year, and was much cheaper. And in any case, whether its Holiday/Gordon/Vasquez or Holiday/Gordon/Evans... I don't know, that's a lot of talent, but those 3 seems don't seem to mesh to me. And potentially r****d the development of Anthony Davis offensively. It's almost like the Hornets have relegated Davis to the type of role that was seen for Noel. "Oh, he won't ever get there offensively, but he's a great shot-blocker, rebounder, defender, cleaner-upper, so let's just get a lot of scoring/usage in the backcourt". Davis didn't DOMINATE, but consider he'll be 20 still through most of next year, and still averaged 17 and 10, 1.2 apg, 1.5 bpg and 2.2 spg on a per 36 basis on 52% shooting. I don't know, I'm just not that eager to trade out Vasquez - who proved himself to be very adept playmaker/assist man for a guy who at least historically has dominated the ball. Evans assist numbers have gone down on a per 36 basis every year of his career to a low of 4.1 per 36 last year. Vasquez was at 9.6 last year.... meaningfully higher than Holiday's as well. Maybe they want to go small a lot with Holiday/Gordon/Evans... but again that seems like it hurts Davis developmentally.

I think the Hornets could have done better for their team, and gotten more protection on the draft pick portion of the deal, potentially. That's why everyone thought Hinkie did a great job with that trade.

Morey silenced his critics by acquiring Harden, and Dwight can silence his critics by winning.

Good read. Zach Lowe sorta has a weird obsession with farts though.

Yeah, but being small market, don't want to pay the tax, had to break up their core and now can't sign anyone to replace K-Mart......it's quite sad......:(

Of course, we benefit from that!
