we should win now as opposed to the building for the future who know maybe a dominating team will form like the bulls even great teams may not win a title

I don't get what you're saying here. We should win now by adding Kidd or Hill and there max deals, but on the other hand, you're even saying great teams may not win a title?

Oh, I doubt anyone thinks that Jersey will suddenly suffer an attack of generosity and willingly trade us Kidd for a bag of potato chips. In order for that to happen, their arms will have to be twisted. Fortunately for us, Kidd has a lot of leverage; if he decides he wants to come to Houston, we have an excellent chance of getting him.

And Kidd could decide to come over. As Trifle3A mentioned, he may not be a happy camper in Jersey any more. He desperately wanted SAR on his team, and recruited hard. When SAR agreed to join the Nets, Jason probably started dreaming championship dreams -- and then *poof* he woke up. He must be one disappointed guy. So it would not suprise me to at all to learn that he wants out.

Hill is one of my favorite players too, and I have no doubt that, psychologically at least, he is as tough as anybody. This may be a case of the spirit being willing, and the body being weak. Remember, he started limping again towards the end of last season. Who knows what another year of wear and tear will do to him?

Terse, whom exactly are you expecting Jersey to want from us provided that we do all the arm-twisting known to man? Keep in mind New Jersey has an obligation for ticket sales as well, not just to save money from a disputed bloated contract ala Jason Kidd. If Jersey traded Kidd, and Ratner has vehemently denied ever wanting to trade Kidd in the past or in the future, then they would have Vince Carter's huge contract coupled with Richard Jefferson's. Any NBA team with common sense would trade the NBA's best point guard for at least another good NBA point guard with All-Star credentials. It's not like we could trade for Kidd with Juwan Howard, Charlie Ward or Moochie Norris, Vin Baker, or David Wesley. That simply won't fly. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for that trade to happen, but to simply put one's emotions into an implausible trade is just not worth it.

What worries me the most is T-Mac's back. A bad back only gets worse, it hardly ever improves. He may be able to play at a superstar level for the next 5 years despite the handicap, but this is not guaranteed. Let's go for the championship while we can, I say.

Heh, I didn't say that we would be applying the leverage; we don't have much. But Jason does. If he wants out of Jersey and specifically names Houston, what can the Nets do?

As for the salary issue: it would be an investment; see my original post <a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=1974570&postcount=16">(#16)</a>.

You could be right. I don't want Hill anyway. It would have been great to get him in his prime, but not now.
