He has been the player I had heard Morey has been inquiring about for a couple seasons only to shut down. Much like Kevin Martin in that second tier stars bunch, but given the Rockets roster now, he would be the missing piece at the 3 spot that Morey would covet as a long term solution. However, Granger will come at a high price tag... something along the lines of 2+draft picks, semi-all star, expirings, and young talent. The Pacers arent typically the team you would think of that would be financially stricken, but wouldnt mind opening up some cap room if they could. Scola would seem to be the player they would most likely want, with draft picks and possibly a veteran player like Battier, who still has something to offer the team now and is an expiring. Any other packages would be hard to concieve given his high trade value.
There going to want a lot for him, who would you guys give up for him? I'm guessing it would probably be Scola with filler players/details on both teams for need. Unless they are hurting that bad revenue wise and want Yao as the centerpiece.
Negotiations for a player like Granger takes weeks to get done. Morey has probably been making offers since December 15th and been getting shut down in dramatic fashion. Now if they start listening then they will low ball him and take up till the Feb. deadline to work towards middle ground. No trades will be made until then.
I agree it will be costly but they are VERY much financially stricken. They are in DEEP trouble and need help. They barely get anyone to go to their games and would dearly love Yao's insurance money and expiring deal. Taking Posey's contract along with the package I proposed earlier would start the negotiations.
if this was a couple of years ago, then sure. But given that we're rebuilding, getting another high salary player is really pointless. If anything we should be looking to trade Scola and Martin... for young talent..
Teams dont give up all-star caliber players for just financial relief and players like Bud and Hill. You have to ask yourself Why does Indiana make this deal, and how would it make them better long term? Trading their best player for financial relief and mediocre young players doesn't quite fit the bill. Dream on.
But that is a bunch of garbage for the Pacers, they need a quality PF on their team. We can't rape every team in every trade.
Granger gets a bad rep for his d, but seems to be a motivational issue, not a physical one. If you trade for Granger, then there's no point in having brooks, so flip him for a big.
I'd personally rather go after Iggy. Granger is definitely a good second option though... boy would Hibbert be nice though..
Well, the are currently in financial trouble and Yao's appeal would deinitely help in that department.
Granger: +Much better on D. Actually blocks some shots. +Better handling = less TOs +Closer/creator +Doesn't disappear in 4th +Muscular, not a stick (45lbs advantage) +More athletic, rebounds -84% FT vs 90% FT *Career 3 pt shot is actually the same
If im not mistaken, Posey's contract is already expiring. They can get financial relief from alot of teams and get better assets in return unless a player like Scola is included.
