Without Halo CE, the Xbox probably would have been discontinued because Playstation and Nintendo were too big to compete with.
It comes down to what you prefer, multiplayer or the actual game. A lot of Halo and COD player never even bother to play the actual game. They buy it solely for the multiplayer. I much prefer to play the actual game. GTA for me.
Since I prefer single player to multiplayer, I am going for the series that focused on the single player experience. You could play a GTA game for a long time and not do everything. Halo games were pretty short and seemed to get shorter as the series went on. I remember getting to the end of Halo 2 and being like, "That's it?" San Andreas, on the other hand, felt like a full game before even leaving the first city. I will second the person that said Saints Row though, they really ran with the GTA formula.
GTA IV was a HUGE piece of ****. But I loved San Andreas and prefer it to anything in the Halo series, so GTA wins
lol no PS2 was also popular because it doubled as a cheap dvd player, especially later on in its life gta3/vc/sa helped, no doubt, but not nearly on the scale you think it they did
Love GTA...Vice City is a classic and IV was excellent; never played San Andreas. But Halo, I love the characters, love the universe, the story, the single player campaigns and the multiplayer. Have played the campaigns multiple times, which is somewhat rare for me.
Asking people to pick between a single-player sandbox game and an online FPS is really not a fair question. People aren't going to base their judgment on the merits of the game, but rather which genre they prefer.
Easily GTA. San Andreas is the best gaming experience I've had, and I'm a life long gamer. Halo is very good, and it probably is the main reason the first XBox managed to survive, but GTA, and the number of GTA game is just unbelievable. I think the last GTA game was very good, but lack a bit of....something, not sure what you'd call it. I'd love an updated version of San Andreas for the Xbox 360. I think of all the GTA stories, that was by far and away the most fun.
Halo all the way...although i was a big fan of the gta series but i just cant get into those games anymore...red dead redemption, saints row 1&2 n gta...just sit on my shelf collecting dust cause i couldnt get into it
GTA IV might possibly be one of the most overrated games of all time. I enjoyed San Andreas and Vice City...although those games were not as "grand" as GTA IV, they were much better, more entertaining games. Halo has multiplayer going for it, that alone is why you get more bang for your buck with that series. Depends on if you spend time online or not. If you do, Halo is the way to go...if not, go with the Grand Theft series.
