i would have much rather had john glenn. I had Janet Napolitano at UofA. At the time, she was govenor of Arizona. God awful! And i mean really bad. She rambled on for way too long with no motivating point. If you told me she was going to be secretary of homeland security back then, i would have laughed my ass off.
is it bad? i have no idea who spoke at any of mine. i kinda remember the message but we were also a bit hungover and getting ancy to end so wasn't paying all that much attention. i notice that i pay attention more when it's not MY graduation and i'm in the audience watching.
I cannot remember who spoke at my high school graduation but at my college graduation some doctor from the Army spoke, can't remember his name though. My friend, who graduate a few years before me got John Grisham.
I would have killed for John Glenn, at least it would have been interesting. My college one was the Gov. of Louisiana I think, boring as hell
I didn't go to either high school or college graduation ceremonies. I went to three different high schools, didn't really make any friends and was at loggerheads with my Mom (who was still forcing me to go to Math Camp that summer), so I didn't feel like giving up a night of TGIF to sit in a stadium for 2 hours with 300 other people I didn't care for. During my freshman/third form year, P.J. O'Rourke spoke at Prize Day; but I was unhappy at that school and had no idea who he was then, so I really didn't know what anyone was laughing at. I was more socially isolated (but actually a lot less miserable) in college, but I was also $25,000 in debt by senior year and I didn't feel like paying another $150 or so for a robe and a hat.
I can't remember if it was Al Rocker or another fat weatherman that spoke at mine back in '97 at A&M. Whoever, I remember was pretty amusing.
Jeb Bush. I was bored out of my mine the first time, so I didn't bother going to my grad school ceremony. I went to a ghetto high school that didn't have any speakers besides the principal and teachers.
I had Rick Perry for high school. Previous speakers included Bill White, Rudy Guiliani, James Baker, Ken Lay, Madeleine Albright. My university had Joe Biden this year.
Graduations speaker eh, this is who we got. Our new president was apparently highschool friends with her http://www.timewarner.com/corp/management/executives_by_business/time_inc/bio/moore_ann.html
