So as some of you may know, I have attended Ohio State for the past four years. I will be graduating this Sunday, and I am really disappointed for whom we booked as our speaker -- John Glenn. This would be like having Archie Griffin as the speaker because of Glenn's connection to both the state and the university. In addition, he has already given a talk to my high school about five years ago. In years past, Ohio State has had President Bush and Clinton as Spring speakers, and yet my class is stuck with John Glenn. I would have preferred Sarah Palin over Glenn. Who was your graduation speaker?
i think mine was ceo of at&t, a former ucla bruin i spent most of the time texting my girlfriend at the time who was in her own ceremony in a different part of campus bored out of her mind too.
John Glenn would be a fine choice for any university outside of Ohio. I do not claim to have any connections, but even I was able to meet John and Annie Glenn personally multiple times during high school.
I know TAMU had Bush this year. I think the bad Bush too. Probably the one place that cared to have him.
I had an OB/GYN. Worst graduation speech EVER! My sister got Gary Kubiak. These were high school, by the way.
USC: Chief Technology Officer of Northrup Grumman ... whatshisname? ... we had him. Started tuning out when he started talking about bandwidth - in the first two minutes of the speech. Even engineers don't find this stuff interesting. The rest of campus had The Governator.
I haven't graduated yet but my best friend did (Prairie View) and Rick Perry was the speaker. He wants votes.
I don't have the faintest idea who spoke at my high school graduation. That's how thrilling it was...
that's a pretty cool speaker imo. At least you got a well known person than most people have heard of.
My school, the University of Pennsylvania, got Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google for commencement. Each school within the University also gets their own ceremony and own speaker; Engineering had the current mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter c/o '79, and the College (of arts and sciences) had John Legend c/o '99. Funniest moment had to go to when some dude was walking to get his diploma, does a quick left turn and gives John Legend a giant man-hug in front of a couple thousand people. Dare I say...Legend-ary?
You're upset about John Glenn? Wow.... I didn't walk at my first college graduation, so I have no idea who spoke. I'm curious to see who OU pulls for May 2010. Can't believe you're upset about John Glenn, though.
