Other than Valanciunas there weren't any game changers in this draft. So, as per usual, the best course was to keep adding the best assets you could get for the team. No player, not Kawhi Leonard not Singleton (who I liked) was going to move you up in the standings much for 2011. THE only player that might do that is Yao Ming. So, you've got to keep thinking longer term. Teams will value Scola and we can afford to trade him. Teams may value Bud and we now can afford to trade him. Teams need PG's and we will have one to trade. Hill could be a reasonable add-on to a deal. Also, you might as well consider Terence Williams and Hasheem Thabeet as draft choices because they are still "potential' guys. If everything comes up roses on our potential the 2013 Rockets could be: Lowry Williams (6'6") Morris (6'9") Motiejunas (7'0") Thabeet (7'2") So I think you need to grade the draft on how much relative value was added to the team verses 1. what was available and 2. compared to other teams. A (though I really wanted Honeycutt and Tyler from the second)
b but my real grade is again incomplete as usual. A incomplete because he is doing his Assets gathering again. This screams of another move later to the roster. Dont know what position Morris plays and do not know about Montajunas. Flynn is an unknown talent. Have little confidence in Moreys ability to swing more than role player type trades.
I gave him a C. I'm a Morey supporter and generally like his approach, but once again we leave a draft with a bunch of assets. I was hoping we would try to get the #2 pick and finally get a franchise player that we can build around. Maybe that was just wishful thinking, but at some point we need something like that to happen. That being said I'm happy with the picks themselves, Morris and Montiejunas (sp?) seem like solid players, and dumping Miller was great. I'm not sure what we're going to do with 3 point guards though, maybe trade bait when the new CBA comes out? As usual, I hope so.

People that don't watch college ball and were expecting some ridiculous trade that would have messed up our foundation. And a crap load of C's & D's. SMH
They get a B. The Dontas trade was good. Marcus Morris was a safe pick, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can play the 3 position full time. If he is productive at the 3, I will increase the draft grade to a B+, but they didn't address defense, and they didn't address the center position, so they get a B.
I would have given us a C if it weren't for the trade. Trade was a good move with alot of potential. Solid B.
B- (because of the trade / C) Mainly, because of the quality of the draft in general and we really did not find any game-breakers or diamonds in the rough. This years' class was so weak, even compared to last year's which really wasn't that strong either. No one in this draft could pan out, it wouldn't be a surprised. Marcus Morris is a tweener for now, probably have to see how he does against NBA competition first. If he doesn't pan out, it won't be bust or disappointment. Not expecting him to be a franchise player or even at worst an average starter. He might actually be suited better for power forward with his skill set, even though we apparently going to try him at small forward. His build and game does remind me alot of David West. I think the one thing we needed at small forward was a good defender ala Shane Battier, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest, or Jim Jackson. Though, I guess those type of players weren't available. Motiejunas has a sense of humor and certain level of cockiness, but I do not know if it is going to help with his NBA career. From the sound of analysts on draft night and online reports, he's sort of underachiever and is a lazy player (the one about partying instead of playing in a game). . . has not taking the game seriously. Alot of red flags for a team such as the Rockets right now, that really do not have identity as a team or a group of veterans to straighten him out. If he were with a team, like the Lakers, Heat, or Trailblazers, he wouldn't be as apt to certain behaviors he's picked up. Miller for Flynn was a decent move. I can't fault anyone for having skepticism in these picks. There not like DeMarcus Cousins or John Wall type picks where you know you are getting a certain quality player coming from college or overseas. I seriously do not know what direction this team is going in unless they are trying to net a big name player. Would like to see who they bring in as a free agent.
