Well, aside from my opinion that Francis IS better than Odom now, and WILL be better over his career, I wouldn't do this trade just because it seems there have been more teams built around good PGs than there have good SFs. The SF position, historically, has always seemed to be primarily a role player type position.

Plus, Odom's name doesn't sound like anything, and Francis is the Franchise. :D

Odom does have the lead in total possession suspensions, though.

HEB,

i know i just ridiculed "the golden child". i realize this. however, please show me the plethora of AI compliments i've been dishing out...

2nd, how is steve THE MAN, if he doesn't want to take the last shots??? how is steve THE MAN, if he hasn't made an open commitment to houston?

3rd, you've mentioned absolutely NOTHING about lamar odom's on court abilities. is this because of a lack of knowledge? is this because you see no further than steve francis' midsection? tell me, does steve use baby powder? does he use boxers or briefs?

raven, is lamar a sf? or is he a shooting guard? or is he...a point guard? or is he...a power forward?

good question, huh? cause he's played all of those positions.

second, i'm not sure this team is being built around francis. this team is being built around mobley.

think about it. we're built on the pnr and isolation right? who's the best pick and roller on the team??? mobley...hands down.

who's the best isolation player on the team??? mobley...hands down.

seems that steve is the face, but cat is the heart....

I know Steve has a lot of position's, him and Cuttino are very flexible. Imagine what kind sexual things they do together...

While everything you say is true, if we make the trade you suggested, Lamar would be played at SF. Of that, I have little doubt, and that was my point about what our team was being based around. Whether our team is currently built around Steve or Cat is a judgement call. Certainly both provide amazing numbers from their positions. My main concern is that, at his position, I feel Steve is far better compared to his peers than Odom is compared to his peers.

jayz,

how good is derek fisher compared to his peers? how good is ho grant to other power forwards in the league?

it doesn't matter how good you are in comparison to other players in the league. it matters how good you are for your team.

lamar could play the 3 with houston. but it might be this in stretches:

PG: mobley
SG: lamar
SF: glen rice

or

PG: lamar
SG: mobley
SF: glen

or

PG: lamar
SG: mobley
SF: griff
PF: motay

or

PG: mobley
SG: lamar
SF: griff
PF: motay

all these are possibilities and it doesn't matter about how good they are - individually - versus the rest of the league. it matters how good they are as a team versus the rest of the league.

the team wouldn't be built around the sf. it would be built around mobley, since he is the #1 scoring threat on the team.

Verse,
Two questions:

1) Why didn't you respond to my 2nd post in this thread?? I am devastated that you didn't. Although JayZ, Heb, and RL have pretty much covered everything else that needs to be said.

2) Are you that stuck on Odom or is it something else, like are you from Rhode Island or are you trying to prove a point, like Heypee does from time to time, that this whole BBS feels that Francis can do no wrong?

Numbers don't mean everything verse, impact, personality, and style plays a huge part in this. Francis alone is a better player then Odom, Francis and Mobley together gives us the best backcourt in the NBA. Why break that up for a guy who puts up pretty numbers? Odom has not shown me he can take over a game. All Odom has is great all-around numbers, and so does Francis. Yeah Odom can play different positions, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm ready to blow up this team's backcourt and start a back-up PG to get him.

you could even run this lineup:

PG: lamar
SG: cuttino
SF: rice/walt
PF: eddie
C: willis/cato.

how much different is that lineup from what we're doing now? you have a taller pg who can give you a triple double (does that not sound like steve francis)?? then you have dooling coming off of the bench.

you could even package up moochie and walt and trade them for some frontcourt help.

Our backcourt is LIGHT YEARS better. Odom IS NOT a PG. He can not play huge minutes at PG. He can fill in here and there but he can't play PG consistently. Moochie is not a starting PG in this league. Basically you're replacing the duo or Mobley and Francis with Mobley and Odom and Francis is a far better player then Odom. More focused, more willing to improve, more comfortable in the backcourt, and more comfortable with carrying the load of a franchise. I know there are a ton of different matchups you can throw with Odom, but in the end that one matchup you throw out there is what wins championships.

3rd, you've mentioned absolutely NOTHING about lamar odom's on court abilities. is this because of a lack of knowledge? is this because you see no further than steve francis' midsection? tell me, does steve use baby powder? does he use boxers or briefs?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I've watched Odom since his days at Rhode Island. I don't care what Francis uses, he could use baby powder, he can use boxers or briefs, all I know is that he uses his head and stays out of trouble, and he uses his skills to win games. I find it pretty suspicious that when Odom played the Clippers struggled, when he got suspended the Clippers went on a tear. It's not that they are better without Odom, it tells me that Odom still has some growing up to do and isn't ready for the load. The guy isn't in Francis league yet as far as utilizing his skills to help the team, and he won't get there until he learns.

here the thing:

the team is built around mobley, in truth. what does he need to be successful?

a good pg - he has that in steve, but that pg doesn't have to be "all world". keyon dooling can be a VERY GOOD pg.

if you have the opportunity to pick up a VERY GOOD pg in exchange for steve franchise - AND PICK UP the most versatile player in the nba...imo...you do it...

*Sigh* This team isn't built around Mobley. Truth be told, this team isn't even built around Francis, though he is essentially the Franchise player. This team is built around the concept of a strong backcourt. One can't function without the other. Mobley and Francis could be this generations version of Dumars and Isiah. And while both are Hall-of-Famers (Dumars and Zeke), saying this team is built around Mobley is like saying the Pistons were built around Dumars. It was built around the Pistons backcourt. Take away Dumars, and while Isiah is still a Hall-of-Famer he doesn't have a ring. And if you replaced Dumars with an Odom type player the Pistons still don't win a ring because the Pistons were a guard oriented ball club with a tough as nails attitude. Replacing Dumars with Odom would have just completely disrupted the Pistons. Would I like Odom on the Rockets? No doubt. The guy has a load of skills and potential. Would I trade Mobley or Francis for him? Nope. Trading away one of them kills the chemistry, the make up of the team, and the personality of the team. Better talent doesn't always make you the better team or Portland would be collecting rings.

Yeah, this trade is insane.

Francis > Odom
Thomas > Dooling

Now, and in the future.

And I used to think verse was fairly sharp. Maybe you should spend less time grabbing your nut sacs and more time watching these guys play. Steve Francis is irreplaceable.

33 points and 9 boards says Francis is staying right here in Houston. And Cuttino isn't going anywhere either.

while id like to have odom on any team no way is stevie franchise leaving, and no "real" rockets fan would consider dealing stevie franchise

Now ive agreed on most of your shandon anderson takes but back away from the crack pipe and sober up man. This deal is crap, you DO NOT GIVE UP A FRANCHISE LEVEL PG EVER, HERE ME!

You know why??

THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT POSITIONS IN BASKETBALL ARE PG AND C. When you have a superstar at one you dont give him up, do you see the lakers dealing shaq, heat-zo, i didnt think so. The only exception was marbury for kidd but phoenix was drunk when they did that and both are superstar caliber, albeit kidds better. This is the same reason not to trade EG because once i bulks up i see him playing lot of center for us in the future and will be awesome.

Francis will always be the foundation of the Rockets and will never change I hope for the next 5 years at least. Cat will always be the other clutch that the team needs when it's crunch time and just a friendly reminder that whatever you boys smokes, that sh*** can be real harmful to your reflex especially if your driving!!
