You can have a coach molesting children in showers for years and nothing will be done. Your kid gets too big, and the obesity police eliminate your parental rights.

Government oversteps it's authority and removes an 8 yr old for obesity.

Sorry, BMI is actually 69. Put in 3 feet even instead of 3'9".

This is child abuse in my book. I've felt for years that parents who allow their children to get ridiculously obese are unfit. It makes me sick to my stomach when I see kids like these.

Removing them from their parents is problematic. Where do you draw the line? Some kind of intervention is needed but every effort should be taken to keep them at home.

It's best to intervene before obesity ruins the kid's life. I have zero problem with this.

The child had to go to the hospital because his weight is causing him breathing problems. Sounds like child abuse to me. The mother should have to undergo parenting classes before that child is given back to her.

Totally disagree. Aside from the quality of life issues for the kid himself, we'll be subsidizing his health care costs through our insurance premiums. I'd love to know this kid's daily diet.

I don't think this is a government overreach. There is a left over question of where do we draw the line in regards to taking children from parents for obesity. How fat is too fat?

    Good on the government.
There should be increased awareness on obesity.
The reason why our country is so obese is because we have so much freedom and so much political correctness in this country to where:

    "Obesity is okay!"
    "Its okay to be different!"
"It's not his/her fault its hereditary!"
    Blah blah blah bull****.

Race, sexual attraction, religion (to an extent), etc. are not controllable factors.
    Weight IS controllable.

The glaring problem I see with this is, why must they remove the child from the mother's custody? The mother claims that she was cooperative (records do show that the kid lost weight recently). In a situation such as this, the root cause is either a serious medical one (endocrine) or an emotional one. It appears the docs haven't found a medical cause that can be addressed, so the govt proceeds to create massive turmoil in this eight year old's life by removing him from his home? How the hell does that make sense?

BTW, you gotta love this angle,
    Goodness gracious

I remember a couple of years ago when my weight ballooned to 200 lbs at 5'7 with blood pressure towards the high end. Freaked me out and started to diet like a fiend due to fear of health issues.

So I hold nothing against the govt for this.

Good job imo. As long as the parents are given a chance to rehabilitate and have a chance of getting their kid back. If he even wants THEM back after he understands what they did to him.

Regarding the original post, the problem is not that they are only removing obese children, the problem is that they are not also doing this for child molestors.
