Why should it have any impact on spending? That's not the purpose of the debt ceiling, but it's been misconstrued to the public because it has the word "debt" in it.

So what the Rs are saying is that SS/Medicare spending needs to be cut just so that the top 1% can keep their tax breaks.

    Campaign on that, indeed.

The Rs have lost the suburban women's vote with their lust for a total abortion ban ... and contraceptive ban.

Now the Rs want to lose the seniors's vote by cutting SS/Medicare.

One has to wonder what the Rs will have to come up with in order to suppress more non-R voting voters.

Until you renounce your citizenship, they are your politicians too.

And a crisis was averted - the government had to pass something in order to do it. It was entirely a crisis manufactured by the rudderless GOP, but it was real. If they didn't pass anything, next week would be an economic meltdown. The GOP specializes in creating crises for no reason. It is all they know how to do and they have fooled you into thinking it's normal. Your personal hero, DeSantis, wanted them to default - while also not understanding basic economics.

i wish that you would be more specific

    Team Biden
said that there will not be cuts to SS; the negotiated agreement places a cap, w no cuts.
The house speaker from hick town, CA
had hyped the "largest cut ever" to sell his debt limit deal to the house GOPers, but
When McCarthy’s spending cuts get spelled out, even Republicans balk

Biden is no McCarthy, and vise versa !

Biden has played at least 3D chess on this. He was asked in an interview. Why he isn’t celebrating this more. He said that he didn’t think it would help negotiations if he did.

I’ll see if I can find the clip.

I get why a lot of people feels Biden and the Democrats should be crowing about their achievements more. I think Biden believes that if he did it would harden GOP opposition more. That many Republicans seem willing to deal with Biden because they don’t think he’s going to rub successes in their faces. That Biden appears bumbling in public means that the GOP base underestimates how effect he is at working legislation.

I truly wonder what their plan is

Is anything they do actually popular with most of the population?

it’s like they’re not even trying…you’d think they’d at least put on facade, but to outright talk about cutting SS and Medicare like that out in the open is wild as a political strategy

Biden doesn’t need to do it, but prominent people in the Democratic party need to be letting the public know about their achievements and why they are good for the American people plus why the republican party is so repulsive…Democrats always allow lies and false narratives to fester and then they end up becoming “fact”

the amount of people who think the Dems have done nothing is astounding

Lame-ass excuse, no surprise. She'll go down in history as one of the worst congressmen (along with mtg, gaetz, johnson, oh... its a longer list than I thought)
