I'm surprised nobody is concerned by the biggest economic event happening all year ? Mccarthy won't raise the ceiling and biden will ultimately have to decide to do it unilaterally. It's pretty crazy that we're talking about the entire world economy hinges on what happens the following week.

This WhiteHouse is the first one to have the guts not to negotiate and push austerity. It's funny how lefties in this section who cry about bernie and cling onto him are so silent.

Whitehouse has the right mindset. How will it get resolved is the million dollar question.

    14th amendment? Coin?

Why would they negotiate? When you get your mortgage do you call your company and haggle before you make payments? You folks sound insane who are asking for negotiations.

    It's just straight up terrorism

    Exactly.

What all the Trump humpers really are aching for is for House Republicans to ultimately raise the debt ceiling, but do it in a way that humiliates Democrats, and takes power they were not elected by voters to get.

The philosophy right now is you have to take power. Nobody is going to vote for your ideas in a Democratic way. You have to take it. By force if necessary.

Let's just call this what it is @Astrodome... economic terrorism. Do you consider yourself weak enough to negotiate with any other type of terrorists if the shoe was on the other foot and your guys Trump or DeSantis were the sitting President, and the Democrats were enacting economic terrorism???

Would you say "Oh I really hope that DeSantis gives up funding ICE and the Border Patrol in order to secure an agreement with House Democrats on raising the debt ceiling so the US government can pay for the spending that the Democrats did in the previous administration...." ???

That's exactly what is happening here dude. Would you really be okay with that if the shoe was on the other foot???

my opinion of Biden started to change when he finally realized that this wasn’t the old days and republicans can’t be reasoned with…they do nothing in good faith and don’t adhere to any promises they make

u should concede nothing to them because we already know they will do the same if in power

Democrats have been weak for so long

Biden needs to hold strong. If we've learned anything is that the Republicans are not to be trusted. I wish it could be negotiated in good faith, but this is one of those items that we know their intentions and the democrats need to hold.

Debt ceiling isn't the pork bill. Youre talking about the omnibus at the end of the year which has pork.

    Does anyone know anything anymore

Raising the debt ceiling isn't a bill. Raising the debt ceiling is paying for debts which you have already accumulated. Let me give you a real world example.

Wife: Hey Honey it is time to pay the car note
Husband: We ain't paying **** until you promise to cut back on buying more clothes.

This is a routine exercise to pay bills already approved, and it is constitutionally required.

    No negotiation.

If Republicans want to act like terrorists and destroy the world economy, that is 100% on them.

It's just funny how we're talking about this in such abstract terms. We're talking about the entire world economy here effecting billions of people

Yes, you are correct. Its not a bill. I shouldn't have used that word. What does remain is negotiations do happen.

It's simple. McCarthy is a p***y, Biden is not. Biden is in the right and will not cave, so it goes back to McCarthy.

McCarthy is held hostage by a minority of extreme right-wing crackpots. But when push comes to shove, they will all get b****-slapped by big corporations like the Trump family did by Budweiser.

Do you have any idea how many billions of dollars go from the federal government to corporations for contracts? This is where the rubber meets the road.

Yawn…. Conservatives naturally kept their stupid ethanol subsidies and do nothing to address the biggest issue (entitlements).
