How does that make the rest of you taxpayers feel?

Makes me want to puke. What is the purpose of taking our tax dollars and running commercials on a company that is filing bankruptcy? How stupid can you get?

I know it's a strange concept, but companies advertise to sell product. The more product sold, the more profiitable the company. The more profitable the company, the healthier it is. The healthier the company is, the less help it needs.

I find the army/marines/navy/air force sponsoring sporting events far more irritating in terms of "taxes".

    WHAT!?!?!?!

    THEY ARE NOT PROFITABLE!!!!!

They need to ditch the commercials and produce better automobiles!!!!

ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE USING OUR MONEY TO KEEP THEIR COMPANY AFLOAT!

IT'S NOT LIKE THEY AREN'T GETTING ANY PUBLICITY WHEN THEY ARE ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE PAPER EVERYDAY!

Actually I am OK with this one. They are a company that declared bankruptcy and is now trying to reorganize and intends on staying in business. They are letting people know that GM is not going anywhere and will be here probably for another century or so, and are just working to get into financial shape.

GM needs to put that kind of positive spin out there, there are a lot of people who are jittery about buying their products because of the bankruptcy. They are telling people not to forget about them, and that they still got some great products out there (which they do). If they don't move cars off dealership lots, they will be in even worse shape down the line.

THE GOVERNMENT IS LETTING US ALL KNOW that GM is not going anywhere but they are staying in business. We aren't stupid. We don't need the government advertising the fact that they are staying in business. We are reading about it in the papers and watching/hearing about it ad nauseum on television and radio.

Err... Advertising is designed to sell cars. If they stop advertising, they'll sell fewer cars and lose even more money.

Selling cars is all about building cars that can compete with the quality imports that are being sold in this country.

GM's current commercial campaign admitting mistakes is the best they've run in years.

I'm indifferent. Like someone else said, I'm glad they're admitting how much they suck.

I just wish they would now run a campaign that says, "Yes, we sucked in the past, but we're done with that. Our new pledge is that we're going to create cars that will actually compete with brands like Toyota and Honda in terms of longevity. Now, we are going to go do that. Until we do, we'll shut up, and stay out of the news. Thanks. Bye now."

they already admitted it to Congress and Congress decided to buy them. That was the best commercial they ever ran.

Umm, it's worked better than not advertising would. Advertising hasn't been the problem for GM.

I guess they need commercials to reel in the suckers who don't realize the models potentially owning up to their mistakes won't come out for another 3 or 4 years.

Companies often spend more money during bad times to increase awareness of a product. GM needs to do this. The campaign is a great move in both terms of advertising and public relations.

They should go Spinal Tap "Black Album" style, and just feature 30 second blocs of dead airtime, and cover up the dealership signs. It will build buzz.

Or to explain to people who just don't know what's been going on the last few years in Detroit. Cadillac and Buick, both GM brands, are consistently near the top of the reliability rankings in recent years. As are Mercury and Lincoln (both Ford brands). All of those rank above Honda, for example - only Toyota/Lexus is better.

GM's problems are their structural costs and their focus on larger vehicles in a downsizing market. Their quality problems are a reputation primarily from the 1990's. Perhaps more advertising would help...
