Business models are not the end all be all, nor is profit.

An alternative to oil is a must going forward and yes it should be pre-empted before it becomes it becomes a crisis.

It doesn't really matter how many times it fails, it HAS to succeed for us to push forward as a society.

Not sure why you are so against that. Thats one of the things I expect from government.

Apparently the OP doesn't understand the term "temporarily".

[rquoter]GM, which is based in Detroit, announced to employees at one of its facilities that it was halting production of the beleaguered electric car for five weeks and temporarily laying off 1,300 employees.

A GM spokesman told The Hill on Friday that production of the Volt would resume April 23.

"We needed to maintain proper inventory and make sure that we continued to meet market demand," GM spokesman Chris Lee said in a telephone interview.GM, which is based in Detroit, announced to employees at one of its facilities that it was halting production of the beleaguered electric car for five weeks and temporarily laying off 1,300 employees.[/rquoter]

A company adjust production based on market demand but doesn't shelve the product. Nothing to see here.

This is exactly the kind of thing you want the government to blow money on. The government spent a lot of money putting together the technology that is the internet. It is is greatest wealth creator in the history of man kind. The government game up with a lot of fundamental technologies that make up cellular networks. In 50-100 years when oil is 200 dollars a barrel we will look back and be like they were smart in trying to invest in this.

The problem is that auto bailout was fabulously successful and makes Obama look good (though GWB deserves credit here too).

It's these kinds of off the deep end statements that show just how out of touch and crazy the right has become.
