Most of them aren't really cooks, but chefs.

[rquoter]Pregnant women, children, aged, blind, and disabled individuals whose family income exceeds the established income limit may be eligible under the Medically Needy program. The Medically Needy program allows a person to use incurred/unpaid medical bills to "spend down" the difference between their income and the income limit to become eligible.[/rquoter]

Apparently not for most people. Take my position. If I make $51,818, my kids are 100% covered under the GA CHIP program. If I make $51,819, my kids are 0% covered. One thing I like about Peachcare is that once my child turns 6, I have to start paying a premium of $10-$35/month and then a max of $70 for 2 or more children. If they did something similar for medicaid, and expanded the premiums for both, you would be able to stretch the coverage farther and have co-pays.

And as FB said, a single payer system would correct all of this. Instead of the wealthy paying a ton for their own coverage while having deductibles and co-pays, and paying taxes to cover my children 100%, they would get 100% coverage too, and it would ultimately cost them less.

A chef is the head of the kitchen. So, most of them are not chefs either. Emeril and Ramsey used to be chefs, I believe, but they made their real money by leaving that life behind. The only cooking Martha Stewart did was a little stint of catering.

i know enough about libertarianism to understand how silly it is to continually try to link it to conservatism and the GOP.

I don't think it's silly at all. If you're talking in the realm of pure political philosophy, there are connections and similarities.

If you're talking real world, Libertarianism is a currently a big strain of modern Republicanism.

ok - if you are talking in the realm of pure political philosophy there are also connections and similarities b/t democrats and socialists, but most sensible people dont go around linking them all the time.

also, if you are talking in the realm of pure political philosophy there are connections and similarities b/t republicans and democrats (more than most members of those two parties would like to admit ;) ).

i would disagree with that notion. the rhetoric might be there (kind of), but there is nothing libertarian about the way republicans and neocons conduct themselves - especially rick perry and his forced vaccinations, foreign owned toll roads, land seizures and the like.

and if anything, it is fascism/corporatism that is a big strain on not only republicans, but democrats as well.

i would also add that modern republicanism (neoconservatism) seems to be quite a strain on the obama administration too.

There is no meaningful real world difference in modern American between conservatives and libertarians on economic issues. That is why libertarians and conservatives almost always vote together but if a libertarian runs the vast majority of votes are pulled away from conservative candidates. That is why the the famous libertarian billionaire Koch brothers have started numerous libertarian and also numerous conservative think tanks and astro turf "citizen" groups.

"Neo-cons are totally distinct from libertarians and economic conservatives and can be reasonable liberal on economic issues as long as they can have frequent wars and solve most foreign policy issues through military force..

Libertarians equal conservatives that are into sex, drugs and rock and roll. You also find a few libertarians who don't believe in most wars and huge military expenditures.

Toll roads are an extremly pure version of an application of libertarianism; so would a foreign toll road for that matter.

It is hard to take you seriously on libertarianism.

which libertarians exactly? i wasnt aware of any in congress. if there is one it would be ron paul and he doesnt get much of any support from the GOP or conservatives.

the only reason i even know who the koch brothers is b/c you constantly obsess over them. but tell me, which libertarian candidates have they supported? did they endorse bob barr for president in 2008?

seizing private property to build them would not be.

its hard to take you seriously on anything. you are the guy who told me that if i like "GOP economics" than ron paul is my guy. paul has probably been the most vocal critic of "GOP economics" as well as "democrat economics" (which are basically the same thing). or your statement that the only reason that paul wants to cut defense spending is so that the can give a tax cut to the wealthiest 2%.

what the heck are you talking about? i asked you which libertarians are "almost always" voting with conservatives? (and are you talking about conservative republicans, democrats or independents?) again, which libertarians?

so in other words, the answer is "no", you cannot name any libertarian candidates the koch brothers are supporting. thanks.

obama has shown himself to be every bit the corporatist that bush was.

pauls central theme is reducing spending, especially defense spending. i dont see any democrats offering to support his and barney franks proposal to cut their budget by 1 trillion.

    see above post.

austin has become littered w/ toll roads in the last few years and the only time i drove on one was an accident.

you have just exposed yourself again as someone who doesnt know what they are talking about.

the koch brothers are social conservatives through-and-through and its the main reason they are not true libertarians - they are anti-gay, anti-legalization, anti-abortion. for you to sit here and claim otherwise indicates that you really dont know what you are talking about.

there is nothing libertarian about bailouts, stimulus packages, corporate welfare, no-bid contracts and things like congress putting caps on corporate liability (BP comes to mind) - those are things republicans and democrats would know more about.

Glych has no clue what he's talking about. He just keeps making baseless and fallacious claims about what libertarians believe. He oversimplifies the libertarian position on economics by just saying that it, "is almost a complete overlap with GOP conservative economics," which is completely untrue. I don't see GOP conservatives calling for ending farm subsidies, ending tariffs and barriers to trade (some that are ironically imposed by our various 'Free Trade Agreements'), calling for more open borders, or ending legal market manipulation by corporations, GSE's, and international associations. He goes on to say that Rand Paul, "is pretty mainstream GOP on spending for a large military," another statement which is entirely untrue. In fact, Rand Paul (who is largely a libertarian) stated that military spending should be among the first things to be cut all across the board in an interview with Christine Amanpour on ABC.
