I don't care about this enough to belabor the point, but it was widely reported that there was a good deal of tension between Gore and Hillary during the Clinton years. It's true that he enjoyed unusual power in the Clinton WH, but it's also true that no first lady had ever had the president's ear on policy the way Hillary did. I think that was a great thing, by the way. But it was widely reported and accepted that she and Gore were not on especially friendly terms. If that's in any doubt, just google Gore and Hillary and see what you find.

Because with his endorsement he may hope to exert some influence in policy of his pet issues such as the environment.

I'm a big Gore fan and really wish he had ran again this year. I think he would be even more of a slam dunk than Obama. With that said, I think it was a chicken**** move to wait until now to endorse Obama. We have had to endure this race being dragged out forever and I think a Gore endorsement would have prevented that. I get that he has a history with the Clintons but this is bigger than that.

By the time she won Ohio, Hillary's momentum was hard to stop hold on its tracks. I doubt any politician other than Hillary could've ended it at that moment. Her supporters felt like they had something to prove, and they weren't going to let a man end their moment of destiny.

    Eye opening Vanity Fair article...

Well, okay but you're the one who said he was not going to "lower himself."
Then he did... after the race was decided.

For someone who goes out of his way to not pass judgment on what Bush does by giving him the benefit of the doubt (when it so obviously isn’t deserved) you sure are quick to pass judgment on Gore’s motives.

Gore is in a cakewalk and this is the best he can do.... endorse the candidate of his party after the decision has been made. How am I to be impressed or excited about that?

If he's no longer political, endorse nobody.

If he's important, endorse someone while it matters.

I'm not judging him as much as egging him and his fans. It seems much ado about nothing.

Am I the only one who thinks the most interesting part of this post is the attractiveness of Governor Granholm?

Again Giddy, it matters now because for the last 8 years, Gore has been the conscience of Dems who didn't want to roll over for this administration... the rightful President, he spoke out against the war when it was unpopular to do so, he spoke out against the trampling of civil rights and the promotion of torture when it was unpopular to do so, he criticized the administration's handling of the economy when it was unpopular to do so, he helped people in New Orleans when it was unpopular among the people running the Federal government to do so... and he is more valuable now giving a message of "rally around Obama" than he would have been saying "let's beat Hillary."

(Not to mention his Climate Change work.)

And probably the second-best looking current governor. Best? Palin of Alaska.

Thanks for pointing me to that article. I finally had time to finish it. It reminded me of how much I had forgotten. Heck, it reminded me of what a distraction it is to have two teenagers and be a middle-aged S.O.B.! ;)

I must be slipping. Yes, it points out why there is bad feelings between the Gores (Al, in particular) and the Clintons. One of my fond memories is the four in front of the LBJ Library in 1992, during the bus tour, the crowd cheering and screaming their heads off, Tipper and Hillary dancing around the stage as the music played after the speeches. Sad that it devolved into acrimony, misunderstandings, and bitterness. The 2000 election put Hillary in the Senate, but Al losing cast a shadow on everything, especially the way he "lost."

Anyway, a great read and I wish I had read that before Batman, along with others, and I got into it. While it is an excellent excerpt that seems to ring true, it also points out just how much influence Hillary had in the Clinton Administration. A lot. All those times I was trying to defend her against charges that "She was just the First Lady! Hillary Clinton didn't do anything!" and so on. That simply wasn't true. If one is going to believe the sad and bad things in that excerpt, one has to believe the positive things as well.

At any rate, time to move on!

    Impeach Bush.

Good post. Also the idea that he is some what above the fray and it was done strategically.
