But bro, the point is that we don't have control of Dragic. He's a unrestricted free agent and will go where the best opportunity is. Hence, would you rather have Dragic and a Lowry-caliber player, or just Lowry? Resigning Dragic makes Lowry expendable (to a certain extent). I still think Lowry is a better PG, but Dragic's versitility (ability to play two positions) makes him almost as valuable.
I think he will leave Houston, if Nash leaves Phoenix because that would mean he would become starter PG. When asked about how he got used to move from Phoenix, where he started his NBA career, Dragic has answered that there were no problems. "Super. Teammates helped me very, I quickly got used to the team and the environment. Houston is the fourth largest American city and I have not even explored, because I did not have time," he said. "After this season, I am free agent and I can go where I want. I'll wait to see what options are open to me," said Dragic, who is personally the most tempted to return to Arizona, although he will continues happy to play NBA basketball wherever possible.
It only takes 1 team to want Dragic and make an offer in excess of 8M a year. Phoenix may very well stick with Brooks as their point guard. He is a restricted free agent and they traded quite a bit for him. New Jersey has Deron Williams, and until he leaves I dont think the Nets are concerned with Dragic. Dallas is an interesting case. They may go after Dragic, but they seem to be positioning themselves for targeting max free agent type players, and signing Dragic would probably crush their goals. Portland is a real possibility, but my understanding is that they prefer Lowry. George Hill and Bayless are two players I believe that will get a chance to start next season. There are a lot of point guards available in free agency and the draft. With a little luck, the Rockets may be able to lock him up for the 6-7 mil a year range.
this is where his relationship with McHale comes into play. If we don't underpay, offer him a starting role, and the organiztaion and fans do a hard sell to keep him, you'd like to think we'd be the front runners to resign him. But with a house in AZ and a Suns' fan-base hungry to resign him, it's anything but a sure thing.
