Let's make a giant supposition here that the people of Mexico vote for becoming part of the United States. How long would it take for the Army to root out the drug cartels and cut off the ports of entry to weapons to be used against the United States? The cartels exist because of Mexican government corruption, pure and simple. Without the open air graft, there would be criminal empires but they wouldn't be nearly so open. Also, with Mexico's southern border, our new border exposure would be far smaller. BTW, I never said the cartels were not an issue, and I don't think weapons of mass destruction have crossed our borders from Mexico ... yet. However, as I surmised, if the two countries were melded, Muslim terrorists would find it much more difficult to smuggle weapons into the upper 48 contiguous states.
I don't think that vote would pass on either side of the border... And you can bet your bottom dollar that the majority won't go for it. Plus the US has already took part of Mexico's country _ there's no reason to take it all. My original question was in regards to taking out the cartels and overthrowing the government and putting a new one in place that actually has the people's intrest at hand. Which means putting a military presence down there and keeping it there until they no longer need us there. Those cartels are poisoning the country (the US) from the inside out with drug trafficking, human trafficking (which is a big part of the immigration problem), weapons, and increasing the crime rate. They're over here doing more damage than groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda could ever do and they're also keeping Mexico as a country from advancing. Kill the weeds and the flower may blossom. And that would probably have to be the 1st step anyway before annexation is even talked about. Normally I'm for leaving countries alone and letting them sort their own mess out... But Mexico is in our backyard and the US is partially responsible for the power that the cartels have gained.
