MDs are probably closer to engineering technicians than theoretical scientists. The complexity and narrow margin of error makes the training more rigorous and screens out average intelligence and work ethic, but you might not necessarily get the types of abstract thinkers who discover or even explore the defining rules of nature or the universe. Easily definable rules and outcomes may be more valuable not only professionally, but also intellectually, socially and morally.

Thing is... if this MD doesn't believe in evolution, I wonder what his opinion is on the mutation/development of drug resistant germs.

Generally people that "don't believe in evolution" don't discount the ability of a species to change in character, they deny the existence of proof that one species can evolve over generations into a completely different species. Think the difference between moths going from light to dark versus fish becoming mammals. There is observable proof of the former in our history, not so much of the latter. Drug resistant TB is still TB.

This is the problem that I see. Even while this guy might discount what is termed macro-evolution by people in the ID circles I have a hard time seeing how he could espouse a Young Earth view. It's not just having an MD but his BS in chemistry should give him a good understanding of the mechanisms for how the age of the Earth has been determined to not be a few thousand years.
