yeah....I never fully get the "hey...you're almost as bad as we are" line of criticism.

Well, I guess that is kind of amusing - inasmuch as they make royal fools of themselves:

But to suddenly support Obama in this regard after you "kept reminding people they might not like certain policies once the other side was in office" during the "dark days" strikes me as brazenly partisan. I don't think you intended to, but you perfectly took the troll bait Hightop offered and exposed yourself as not a progressive, but just a democrat.

Agreed. The difficulty is in attempting to form objective opinions about politicians.

For example, Obama has demonstrated a remarkable amount of loyalty to Israel since the start of his presidency.

Even then, we see candidates routinely rebuke Obama for not supporting Israel enough, and this criticism extends to both sides of the aisle. In late August, 81 congressmen went to Israel on an AIPAC sponsored trip (roughly a fifth of congress), and nearly 10% of all congressional trips overseas have been to Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu's appearances in congress are well attended, and his speeches are regularly showered with standing ovation after standing ovation. In his speech last May, he received over two dozen standing ovations. The entire transcript is available here- note how frequently he receives applauses, laughter, and cheers.

In this environment, even the most benign criticism directed towards Israel is effectively career suicide. Principle has little currency in today's politics, and pundits of all forms would denounce Obama as an enemy to our closest ally, sympathizing with radical islamists, and almost assuredly anti-Semitic should he ever waver on even a solitary item of support to Israel.

What option does he have other than extended a preexisting policy of uncritical support?

So yes, part of me is extremely critical when it comes to Obama's unbalanced handling of Israel, but then again, what else can we expect?
