Shall we safely declare Google Wave as the largest, over-hyped disappointment of 2010? I will not hesitate to deem the wave as a bust, with 100% conviction. The interface is confusing to most, hence it should be renamed to Ripple. Early contender for bust of 2010? Look no further than the Apple Tablet.
It occurred to me too. I think the concept is sound. The problem is the adoption rate of it. You can only use it with other people who have it, unlike Gmail. Email is universal. You're basically asking someone to use Gmail (or any other email) to communicate with most of your contacts, and then switch to Wave for those who actually have a Wave account. And this assumes they actually check it. I only know 5 close friends who have one, and none of them check it. I think this can gain some speed if companies use this instead of email for inter-office communication. Then it could eventually carry over to casual use. As for the Apple Tablet, I'm very curious too. I doubt I'd want one anytime soon. But Apple did it w/ the iPod and iPhone, they're certainly capable of revolutionary products. I give it a 50/50.
absolutely google wave needs to be better integrated. i thought that would be the point of it- email, maps, social sites, forums, etc., all integrated. watch apple tablet pull this all together...
I got into it because of the hype.. and it is crap. It's like GMail.. without the e-mail. and chat. Maybe because I'm a student, but I just can't see how this is useful - I guess collaborating on a project, but the fact that you can edit someone else's submissions bothers me. (also, if anyone wants invites, I have a few. But it's not worth it. )
We officially implemented this full-time at the office. Ill let y'all know how it turns out. I've had access for awhile but the interface is kind of clunky IMO. Now that I HAVE to use it maybe it will grow on me.
I was thinking of suggesting Wave at my job, for the collaboration aspect. I've never used it, though. Just indicating that if you or anyone has any kind of followup reponse, at least 1 guy here might be paying attention
Well we wrote up a HUGE plan 2 months ago, 5-6 different people including attorneys from all over the USA had their hands in the pot. Imagine how hard it was to make sure the most recent document was being revised. Wave would have made it seamless. Right now its being used a lot for website revisions -posting what needs to get done- and then crossing off what is completed. It is good but I don't see it forcing us to drop Skype, the interface (like I said) is just clunky, and I don't see all of the office using it regularly. Just the more tech savvy.
Aaaaaaand it's a wrap. Another Google product bites the dust. Hope you guys didn't get too attached. http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/04/google-wave-flatlines-no-plans-to-further-develop-standalone-pr/
I wholeheartedly admit defeat in regard to my Ipad prediction. I do, however, take solace in the fact that I have never posted my opinions on fitted dress shirts.
