I don't have time to go through all the streets so I'm glad someone did the work for me. It's freakin hilarious. You don't realize what stuff you might see every day if you had cameras attached to your car. Guys pissing, guys walking in/out of adult stores, dude trying to scale a fence, chick showing whale tail...HAHAHA
I doubt they drive around the city. More like requesting stores with street cams to feed the data to them.
They have vans with cameras attached that they drive around. Not that many stores have cameras, and none of the shots would be consistent (lighting, angle, etc.) if they did that.
According to Wiki: At the low end, cover the the National Highway system: 160,000 miles. Assuming the speed of 20 miles/hr to account for the time it takes to stop and take pictures. They need: 160,000 miles/ 20 miles/hr = 8,000 hr. 8,000 hrs to cover 160,000 miles of highway. They only need 4 guys working full time. They can go back to the start, taking new pictures every year. At the high end, cover all roads: 4,000,000 miles. They need 100 employees. Not that bad.
Mashable has these pics in their top street view sightings so far : http://mashable.com/2007/05/31/top-15-google-street-view-sightings/ #6 on there is kinda sad...
The most personal thing I can find that relates to me is just the stupid Burger King I worked at in high school... http://www.fof-ihof.com/upload/JeeberD/bk.jpg
LOL! those pic are hilarious! Tho, I wouldn't want this "street view" in my city, since it does feel like your privacy is being invaded.
Me? Quite the contrary. I hope it comes to my city and I hope my dick's hanging out in plain view when it does.
That is freakin sad the homeless guy on Google street view was beaten to death recently. Another homeless guy was throwing stuff at his dog, so the guy tried to stop it, and other guy started beating on him.
EDIT: Wow I'm late to the party... FINALLY! http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2007/08/smile_houston_youre_on_google_maps_street_vie.html August 07, 2007 Smile, Houston! You're on Google Maps Street View [Note: Chronicle tech beat reporter Brad Hem is guest-blogging this post about Google adding Houston to its Street View feature.] Google announced Tuesday it has added Houston to its Street View feature on Google Maps. Street View features actual pictures of city streets -- and anyone who happens to be in view when the picture was taken by Google's car-mounted camera over the last year. All of downtown Houston and major arterial streets around the rest of the city were photographed. Google's first priority is adding other cities, but eventually it may add smaller streets in cities that are already featured, spokeswoman Kate Hurowitz said. Keep an eye out for yourself on the sidewalk or more nefarious places. Street View in other cities has turned up some sensitive shots of Stanford coeds sunbathing in bikinis and a man walking into an adult bookstore in Oakland. Google will remove objectionable or sensitive images, such as a woman standing outside a domestic violence shelter, if the person is recognizable and asks for the photo be to taken down, Hurowitz said. In addition to Houston, Google added San Diego, Los Angeles and Orlando Tuesday. --Brad Hem

Looks like they've added a ton of residential streets in the latest update. Too bad I wasn't able to make an ass of myself when it passed by.
man, this is technology that they offer up for free... imagine the stuff they have we dont even know about.. It kind of sucks they will be able to keep tabs on us at all times
The creep factor is high. They caught my wife in the garage. She remembers the exact day they came by last December because of the picture.
