Vernon held Jordan in below his average 3 times, which back in the day, was very hard to do considering he averaged 32 points a game.

Mind providing more context? The statistical table from the outside looking in isn't impressive from Maxwell's perspective

You hold Jordan below his average, you most likely will win the game.

Maxwell was a defensive player and the Rockets had the luxury of not double teaming Jordan.

I understand the 'new school' of basketball it's "who scores more > ", but it's about winning games.

It's not about if Maxwell scores more than Jordan. Jordan = Bull's best player. Olajuwon = Rocket's best player.

You hold the team's best player below his average.

    You're doing it wrong.

In the years Maxwell/Rockets faced Jordan/Bulls, what was Jordan's overall scoring average? Now what was his average when he played us with Maxwell? I don't know the answers to those questions but I do know they'll make your point more effectively than the game-by-game stats you posted.

So...Maxwell held Jordan under his average 3 out of 6 times. It's been a while since I took a statistics course but shouldn't about half his games be under his average (I know it isn't median which is exactly half above and below)?

    Ok.

in the 90-91 Season, Jordan averaged 5% more than his average against the Rockets.

But in season 91-92, he averaged -5% compared to his average vs the League.
And in 92-93, he averaged -20% compared to his average vs the league.

If you've been to a statistics course, you should know that a sample consisting of 6 games over three seasons is absolutely worthless and random.

Not if that sample is the only time the two players faced each other on those teams.

You realize eastern conference teams only play western conference teams twice a year in the regular season?
The houston rockets play in the western conference and the bulls play in the east.
    That's nba basketball.

    Nice try though.

And that's the money shot. And one of the best arguments for the Rockets in the asterisk debate on our first championship. Between Maxwell being WAY better at defending Jordan than anyone else in the league and them having no answer for Olajuwon, you have to like our chances in the series that never was.

This was the number I was looking for. It's the one that proves your case. Good job.

Yep, that's why the raw info would be more telling... stats loose this time. They really just had matchup problems with us. Obviously noone on the bulls team matched up to Hakeem. They really didn't have a big man to speak of back then. More rebounds for rockets more chances to score.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01/gamelog/1993/

You could look at the 92/93 data and may see that the given December and January were two of the worst stretches in his prime, where Jordan had multiple games below 40 fg% and averaged just 47 fg% for the two months. That may have something to do with the games tinman posted.

Like I said, the Maxwell games are given the extremely small sample-size and it's a statistically insignificant sample, that is also very explainable given the context I've given.

It's not a sample size, it's the population.
Rockets maxwell and bulls jordan only faced off those seasons and those games.

Bulls and rockets only face off twice a year.

Lovely how he always stutters non-relevant crap when provided with undisputable stats.

Fact is, Maxwell held Jordan barely 1% below his December&January fg%. A two-game sample is insignificant itself, given the provided context it's even more explainable and debunks the "Maxwell was the best Jordan defender by far" theory.

I like how you don't realize that the rockets and bulls only play twice a year.

You want a sample size, pick any season your favorite player started and find me stats in june.

It's like a robot that can't deal with a task and repeats the same lines again and again.
Or a fly that crashes against a window and won't stop hurting itself.

    Can someone help him?

Like a guy who doesn't understand the nba and math.

He doesn't understand how many games are played by two teams.

On top of that you probably have never seen these games live.

Those stats show he did well against him...Bulls won all three of the game where he held Jordan below his average in those sets of stats.

No we won all 3..MJ himself said Maxwell was one of the few who gave him a hard time. There's no argument that MJ was better, Max just did as well a job as you could on him. Accept it! Funny how people love to discredit this as supposed Rockets fans.
