Larry Page just called Microsoft moochers. Says they take advantage of Google's openness and integrate Google stuff (namely Google Talk in Outlook) into their products, but won't reciprocate by being open with their own stuff.
I don't think Apple and Google hate each other. After all, they were partners during the inception of the iPhone/modern smartphone. I feel like Apple and Google are committed to splitting the mobile industry with each other, but no one else. But yes, Google definitely hates Microsoft, and vice versa.
I think Google builds for iOS because they need Apple's user base. The same can't be said for Microsoft. Apple hasn't exactly been the paragon of openness either. They did go out of their way to talk about how superior their maps were to Apple's (without actually mentioning Apple), for example.
Shots fired. http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/15/4334030/google-demands-microsoft-remove-youtube-windows-phone-app
yeah kind of disappointing it didnt come with it...though one of the permissions it asks to have is for sms...so hopefully thats coming. i hope they integrate google voice into it as well
It's the first version, give them some time. I think they nailed it pretty well. I know they'll eventually add SMS/MMS support, as well as sharing videos/audio recordings.. etc. Also I'm sure they'll integrate it with Google Voice eventually to compete with Microsoft's Skype. The Chrome extension is pretty nice. SMS support is probably the only thing it's lacking to compete with GroupMe, but overall I think it's awesome otherwise. <script height="574px" width="1020px" src="http://player.ooyala.com/iframe.js#pbid=dcc84e41db014454b08662a766057e2b&ec=82ZG5uYjpz4WPURXJl9DCqF4y0g5DZYu"></script>
Not exactly I/O related, but does anyone own a Chromebook or have any experiences with it? I've been pretty interested in getting one for just web browsing for those times I don't want to bring my laptop around. Is it redundant or a nice complementary device to have?
So I've uploaded a bunch of music to Google Play over the past year, am I gonna have to pay to access this from my PC now?
No. The Google Music subscription is similar to what Spotify is. It lets you stream any song on Google Music for $10/mo. Your personal uploaded music is still free to stream.
Has miles to go to catch up to Whatsapp. They should buy Whatsapp honestly, the user base would kill Facebook messenger and dwarf imessage.
Thanks. Had a drive die on me a few months ago so this has been my only way of listening to music on my PC.
Miles ahead based on # of users? Yeah. This thing will catch up features-wise, I would guess sooner than later. There's really only a couple of big features it's missing in comparison. I think once they integrate the full Hangouts experience with this app (meaning the app is able to be compatible with things like watching Youtube videos together), it'll be a real winner.
