    I'm so jealous. :(

NW Austin isn't going to get it for a loooong time, if ever. Tbh, I probably won't live in NW Austin much longer anyway lol.

Yeah... I don't know if we'll ever get it. You might have a better shot than me (if you stay)... I'm in Round Rock.

I doubt it's coming to Round Rock or Cedar Park. I'm not too hopeful for the Domain area, either.

    Theoretically, its a 1Gbps link.
    Assuming a 10 minute video is 150Mb.

In 10 minutes you can download 666 videos to fap to!

You're thinking what I was thinking for several months, since sometime last year. Then they (GF) descended on my SW Austin neighborhood and started leaving flyers on my door and stuff in our mailbox. They waive the $100 connection fee if you sign up before a deadline for your neighborhood, meant to be timed close to GF finishing the installation (they're working like crazy on our street and around it as I'm typing this, probably about to quit for the day). I don't doubt that they will get around to NW Austin. NE Austin might have to wait a loooog time, but I bet next year they'll be to getting NW areas. Looks like they are hitting the areas first that are most likely to sign up in large numbers. One of my kids lives out by 2222 and 620, and he's impatient to get it as well. He has VR stuff that could really benefit from those awesome speeds and he can afford it, being a very successful software developer at age 25 (yes, I'm extremely proud of him, being his Dad and all - sorry for bragging!). So hang in there. :)

Live in South Austin in apartment and got the 100mbps. Had TWC... which apparently is Spectrum now and they offered me 100mbps for 5 bucks cheaper. I still went with Google Fiber.

We've had ATT Fiber (aka gigafiber) in our neighborhood for the last couple of years. Haven't made the switch from xfinity yet....I've been very happy with the X1.

I think this is more about reaffirmation of the bad news. Other than the CEO stepping down, all of this was pretty much expected.

The CEO stepping down is the worst news. At best, GF is lost and not sure how to expand further. At worst, this is one of the MANY failed google experiments. Googles track record is very very poor.

I love the idea of Google Fiber and I wish it was the success everyone expected, but I always had a very low expectation of GF working. Ive spent a couple years working with an ISP startup and had the opportunity to see struggles ISP's face. Its not an easy solution.

So AT&T Fiber is supposedly becoming available in my area next month. I love the idea. Is there anyone here that's used it and would be kind enough to share their experience and opinion of it?

Google Fiber has been in the process of being installed in my apartment complex for months. It was supposed to be done in November, and every time I ask for an update I don't get an answer.

Great Houston area has it....I think the Sugar Land area and Rosenberg / Richmond by the Brazos Town Center have it.

I could be wrong, but my relatives who live in Memorial Plaza off of the Beltway have Att Fiber hookups I think.....

Yep. Going up in Richmond here pretty soon in the next 6 months. Part of Rosenberg has it like you said, around that Brazos Town Center area by FM 762. Can't wait to try it soon once it's available.

Keep in mind, if you don't have have U-Verse TV or DirecTV, then you're going to have a data cap of 1TB unless you pay extra for unlimited.
